Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows if I will be able to size some platinum rings from a 4.75 to around a 6? Is this possible? how is it done? And approximate cost?
Thanks!!!!
This will depend on the design of the ring. In most cases, yes you can size it up with very little trouble. The ring is cut open at the bottom center and a small piece of platinum in inserted into the space. 2.5mm equals one size. The two seams are then welded back together and the surface is finished to look like it did before the cut was made.
Pricing will vary quite a bit with the details of the design, the width of the shank and similar variables. Find a qualified platinumsmith and ask them. Most jewelery stores that do custom design type work in platinum are also prepared to do this.
