Hi Folks,

I'm finally looking into getting an engagement ring.

I actually have a ring from before with no diamond. I was hoping to use this and purchase a diamond to have it set into this setting. My biggest concern now is if it can be sized down appropriately.

The ring itself is a size 7. I'll need it down to a 4.5ish. I had spoken to the online help at james allen and they said they can set it and size it if its "possible" but then won't know until they receive the setting...so I was looking for some opinion here. Would this be ok, or should I just eat the cost and get a new setting.

Here are the pics of the ring:

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

You have to look below the reply box and click "Upload attachment" in order for your pictures to post.

A question...are you the guy and you previously bought the setting for someone else? If so, just resell that setting and get a new one in the right size for this girl!

ah there we go. Thanks!

If the melee is shared-prong like it appears to be to me, I think the stones will end up being too loose if you try to size it down that much.

Oh, yeah, that would be a disaster waiting to happen! I wouldn't resize a ring like that more than 1/4 or 1/2 size max. You can easily sell it since it is new. Start over with a ring made in her size and for the right size stone.

People sell things on ebay or diamondbistro and then make a post in the Pre-Loved section of this forum (under PriceScope Cafe) to provide the link to where you are selling (and pictures).

ok. Thanks for the opinion guys...I guess my two choices are...

1) Find a lady with a larger hand
2) get a new ring...

I'll probably go with the latter haha...gotta confirm the ring size with her tonight first.

Thanks!!!

 Good choice!!!

I agree, I would not try to size down a pave ring that much. Best to sell and start over :))
