I have been reading the Pricescope message boards for a while now...I am grateful for all the wonderful advice I have found here and because of it, my fiance was able to buy me a beautiful round brilliant diamond from Bluenile that I am extremely happy with. :)

Now, getting a setting that I am happy with has been a little trickier. Basically, all I want is a flat round ~2.5mm band with a four prong setting. I have pretty short fingers and really small hands so I cannot carry well a setting that is too heavy looking. I had one custom made and the first time, they came back with a knife edge setting, which was not what I was looking for. They tried again and instead of it being flat, it is rounded on the outside. Though it wasn''t what I wanted, I took it anyways and thought it might grow on me. It looks okay but I have been wearing and I find it extremely uncomfortable as the rounded part digs into my pinky finger. What I really want is to have a flat band on the outside, not rounded. So, what I am wondering is, is there any way that this can be fixed so that it is flat? Or, do I have to start all over again?

I will try to post a picture when my fiance gets home...

Thank you all - any advice is appreciated!

I think you have to start over. You can''t shave off the rounded parts because it would make the whole thing too thin.

I don''t know if this makes a difference, but it seems to be quite thick all the way around. At the sides, it is about 2 mm and at the top it is even heavier, about 3 mm...Would this still be too thin?

Somehow you are failing in your written description of the ring. We need a photo, i''m afraid. It might be possible to flatten the top of the shank and it will then also get thinner between the fingers. However, we would not wish to make a new ring overly thin as long term durability would be lessened and it might also get damaged easier.

A flat ring with a four prong setting on it is a no-brainer. Why you are getting something you don''t want to own is a mystery.

If a ring is not what was agreed to, then don''t accept it. Get a signed agreement of what you are ordering BEFORE you pay any money or charge even any portion of it on credit card...... Get what you paid for.

have a jeweler order a "comfort fit, pipe wedding band" of the proper width from stuller.
Also have them order a 4 prong head and solder them together and you will have what you want.
In 14k it should be under $200 total.
