so the gentleman in question had a limited budget but wanted to get as much size and sparkle as possible. so something had to give, and he decided on clarity (up to a point). apparently the inclusion in this stone (cloud) is *just* visible to an expert eye (they umm''d and ahh''d for quite some time, deciding whether they could actually see anything or not), but doesn''t impinge on the sparkle of the stone and from certain angles was not visible to those inspecting the stone (more than one person at GOG took a good look at it).

the gentleman feels he has an excellent stone for a very reasonable price, and i was wondering if i could get your input pls.

and here it is.

thanks guys :)

If it doesn''t affect performance, it looks like a great stone to me. It has E color, it''s an H&A, and it has long lower girdles so it should have lots of scintillation and sparkle.

I''m wondering if the "busier" look of the long lower girdles diminishes the effect of the large cloud or makes it more difficult to see (calling Storm!) or if that''s just "newbie speculation" on my part.

Also, if the person receiving this has eagle eyes and would object to an I1 clarity, that might give me some pause, but if the experts had a hard time seeing it...

That cloud is large and visible. I don''t think it is eyeclean.

I wouldn''t get that stone. (but i''m no expert)

The overall cut is excellent, obviously. My gut feeling on the cloud is that someone looking at the stone the first time and for a short time probably wouldn't notice, unless they are blessed with superb eyesight. If it was in a ring, the wearer may notice after time or just feel the need to continually clean it, thinking there is dust on the stone. Like I said, that is just a feeling, the fine folks at GOG are hands and eyes on site.

my guess is, after hearing the opinions on it from the folks at GOG, she won''t see it. she''s also quite far sighted, so her close up vision is *not* good. i could hear the conversation by the GOG people and it was along the lines of "can you see something? no - i dont think...oh - wait - is that something? i''m not sure...no, i dont think so...or - hang on, try tilting it..." i''m thinking that if they couldn''t tell for sure, my friend definitely won''t. they both said emphatically, tho, that it was a very sparkly stone and that the cloud in no way compromised this.

the gentleman who is buying it, tho, is just so over the moon about this, i want this to be a great experience for him; for that money, he never thought he''d get as close to a carat as he has with a stone he might actually really like the look of.

so fingers crossed!

Yeah, if they had that much trouble and were looking very critically at the diamond, someone who is more concerned with "Wow! Bright and sparkly!" most likely won''t notice. Sounds like a great deal for him and her. (Friends of yours, whitby?)

hi jet :)

yes! i'm australian, living in the US for the last 6 1/2 years. this couple is the brother of my best friend here (male) who i introduced to, and is marrying, my best friend in Australia (female, obviously)! these are just the loveliest people in the world.

after everything they've been through to get to this point in their lives - i just want them to get a great diamond and a terrific deal. and with this specific stone there's no way of knowing whether we'll see inclusions, and how that will effect the look of it for them till we're actually holding the stone, but i'm passing the time worrying in advance! :)

i appreciate your comments, jet - thank you, sir!

and thanks sarap. my thoughts exactly re the cut. and cindygenit...eek! i hope you're not right - that's my worst nightmare in a nutshell! 'large and visible'...! will let you know when it arrives :) thanks ladies!

I hope it works out, if I were interested in a big diamond for the money I would be all over that one! Let us know how they get on!

thanks lorelei -

my thoughts exactly and it''s very reassuring to hear you say that. :) will let you know when he''s got it in his hand! if the inclusion is not visible, or not visible in a way which bothers them, i think it''s a great deal.

holding my breath for them....

sounds good then, Good Luck. :)

I really hope it does work out, it looks like a beauty to me and if the inclusion is a discreet one it could fit the bill beautifully!

How nice of you to help out your friends, and what a wonderful story. I wish them the best in their new life together and I am crossing my fingers that the stone is as pretty as I think it will be.

Please post pictures!!!

"Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match . . . . "

Congrats to your friends, whitby. So where are they going to live? Please post pics of the stone and ring when it arrives if you are able.

thanks lorelei, stone, jet and sarap :)

i think lorelei hit it on the head when she said it depends 'if the inclusion is a discreet one'. we took a bit of a punt on this stone, but if it comes out as hoped and as described to us, it should be a real winner.

i'll definitely post photos when the stone arrives with my friend and hopefully wedding photos about 6 months later!
