how does the star girdle/lower girdle facet proportions on the idealimage look? would the black give a good sparkle due to contrast?

by the way how is one to know what are ideal star/lgf% ...is there a table? and i know it depends on the other factors like table pav and crown..?

Everyone has their preferences and I don''t know yours but VVS1 would be overkill for me.

I would prefer this one, same color, lower in clarity and larger in dimension AND it''s A Cut Above.

Are you absolutely set on buying VVS1 clarity?

It''s ok if you are - but clarity grades down to VS2 are almost always completely eye clean, and often you can find eye clean SI1s too.

Lowering your clarity grade (if you want to) would let you get a bigger diamond for your budget, without sacrificing any appearance.

Alternatively, you could get a better cut grade, like this:

1.214ct G VS1 ACA H&A - $12043 before PS discount. AGS0 Ideal cut

(The one you posted was only certed VG for cut, polish & symmetry by GIA)

hmm, is there a noticeable difference between aca and round ideal cut? is it possible for me to see the two side by side. If you noticed the price, i would be paying more for what whiteflash calls an aca even when it is of lesser clarity and size to the round ideal. would there be a noticeable difference? where would i go from here..on what reasons would one pick an ava over round ideal and vice versa..

It seems to me you prefer higher clarity S4R, nothing wrong with that. You could get a tighter cut diamond than the one you mention certainly, but it depends on what you value most, Sgirl''s example is a lovely stone.

Be careful not to confuse the vendor''s terminology of ''Ideal cut'' with a true Ideal cut diamond.

Strictly speaking, only AGSL grade diamonds as Ideal cut (their AGS0 Ideal cut grading) - which is when they grade a diamond as 0 for cut, polish & symmetry - their highest grading.

GIA''s highest grading is ''Excellent'' for cut, polish and symmetry - but GIA Ex/Ex/Ex actually covers a far broader band than AGS0, which is a far tighter grading.

The diamond you posted is only graded Vg/Vg/Vg by GIA.

It is still probably a lovely stone, but many PSers try to get the best possible cut for their money.. ie GIA ex/ex/ex or AGS0.

The diamond you posted isn''t a true ''ideal cut''.

does getting the best possible cut mean def. mean it''s going to perform better. I read somewhere gia grades on how the diamond performs with the naked eye, whereas ags has stricter proportions for certain parameters of what a perfect cut should be?

Interesting question!

It's a long answer, so I'll point you here for a bit of reading.

I can't guarantee that you would necessarily notice a difference between an AGS0 and a GIA Vg/Vg/Vg... but there's a strong likelihood the AGS0 would perform better, and look good under more lighting conditions.

I have an AGS0, and I've been told (by women, including strangers) it sparkles more than any diamond they've ever seen.

It's certainly the prettiest stone I've ever seen*.
