Hi everyone,

First off, what a great site. Thanks so much to everyone that created this, and to all who post on these forums. I''ve been reading/lurking for about 2 months and I *think* I''ve found the diamond I want to buy for my girlfriend of 4 years. I would really appreciate some feedback, and if anyone can run this through DiamCalc, that would be great. The details:

0.82 Round Brilliant, G color, SI1 ''feather'', guaranteed eye-clean. GIA certified. Excellent polish and symmetry. No fluorescence. I''ll purposefully leave out the cut grade to get your opinions based on the numbers.

6.02-6.05 x 3.73 mm.
Table 55%
Depth 61.8%
Crown angle 34.5, crown height 15.5%
Pavillion angle 40.8, pavillion depth 43%
Girdle thin-medium
Culet - none

AGA Grade 1A across the board
HCA 1.3 Ex/Ex/Ex/VG

To me, all those numbers add up to a good diamond. That being said, I''m a beginner, I''m buying this online, and I might be overlooking something really obvious.

Thanks for your help and feedback, it is truly appreciated.

Welcome Matt!

The diamond looks great on paper, see if you can get an Idealscope Image from the vendor to confirm what the numbers suggest, but it looks very promising - well done!

Thanks Lorelei.

I forgot to include the price. $3810 US, $4052 CDN. This seems reasonable to me, but I''d also love your opinions on that.

Thanks again.

Funny you should ask that, I have just been finding similar sized diamonds of G SI1 for another poster in this thread for you to see https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/seeking-opinions-recommendations-for-rb-center-stone.68422/ - I managed to keep around and below $3500 USD, so depending on where you are purchasing from, I will do a quick search to check for you. The price seems to be a bit more than similar diamonds I found during a search..

I just reserved the diamond so I''ll speak a little more freely about it now (was afraid to before in case it got scooped!).

I''m purchasing from Blue Nile, which may account for the $300 premium. It is in their ''signature ideal'' line. Now normally I would probably be going for the bottom dollar, but I''m sticking with Blue Nile for two reasons. One, they have a Canadian site, which allows me to pay with a credit card and therefore affords me more protection as a buyer (not to mention a lot of loyalty points on the card :) ). Second, their 30 day money back guarantee is by far the best of the online companies. I don''t trust myself with only 10 days to get it appraised and sent back if something is wrong with it. One month is a nice cushion.

So maybe I''ll be paying a little more than the online market price, but I''m ok with that. As long as it''s not TOO much more.

So now I have 48 hours to make up my mind about this guy. Can I bug the forums for some more input on this diamond?

Thanks,
matt

Not that I don''t trust your opinion Lorelei...

But is there anyone else out there that can give me some feedback on this diamond?

From the numbers, I''d say it has great potential! Are you going to have an independant appraiser look at it?

And also, just a heads up, Goodoldgold and James Allen both have a 30 day return policy. There may be others too, but those I know off the top of my head.

Thanks Ellen!

The first thing I do when I get it will be to have an independent appraiser examine it. Can they still do as good an appraisal if it is already in a setting? Thanks for the tip re: James Allen and GOG. However, both require international orders to be paid via bank wire transfer, and I''d prefer to pay by credit card. I do wish Blue Nile had the same amount of diamond info that GOG has on display. They aren''t able to give me an Idealscope image of the listed diamond, but I did some searches on the forum and that''s par for the course. So unfortunately I have to buy this sight unseen, and hope that the numbers translate into a good quality stone.

I''m still willing to take opinions/suggestions, and again if anyone can plug the numbers into DiamCalc I would really appreciate it. Here is the link to the stone on BlueNile, which has the GIA and GCAL certificates for viewing if that helps at all.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

PS. I''m sorry to keep bugging everyone! What can I say, I''m a beginner, only have my own research to go by, and I''m nervous about picking something beyond all belief.

looking at the pictures on the gcal report I think the diamond should be very nice.
Maybe not as perfect as the super-ideal h&a''s but then again maybe it is.
Its not a dog I think(98% confident) I can say that much from the info and is likely atleast near h&a(75% confident on that)

Thanks stmrdr...

Thanks for your input. BN states that all their round brilliant sig. ideal stones display the H&A pattern (but I guess who knows to what degree). I got a little worried at first when looking at the photomicrograph, but from what I gather on these forums the photomicrograph is pretty useless, at least for making judgments about symmetry. What makes me feel better is that every GCAL photomicrograph looks just like these (kind of messed up) and the actual pattern displayed in the ''optical symmetry'' section looks pretty good to me.

Thanks again.

Hey guys,

I''m probably going to buy this tonight, and I was hoping for a few more opinions than 3! Can I please get some feedback from all you Pricescope veterans out there??

Thanks,
matt

There just isnt enough information for the average person too give you a lot of feedback and the vendors cant comment on anothers stone so that limits the amount of people that could comment with the amount of info given.
You have 30 days once you get it.
You might want too order an IS or ASET scope to check it out yourself also.

I think you''ll be okay. You''ve had a second lab, GCAL, examine it for color, clarity, cut to see if it matches GIA. GCAL also did an optical/brilliance analysis on that diamond and it got their top marks. While I don''t know much about their methodology it looks like a mix between GEMEX and Ideal Scope analysis. Plus the angles look fine. The guaranteed eye-clean means nothing. The only definition of eye-clean that matters is yours. Someone can say it''s eye-clean in good faith but if it doesn''t pass your eye test then it isn''t to you.

Then I think you''ll be fine. They cannot give you an absolute with it in the setting, but close enough to let you know if it''s worth what you paid, and whether it''s a good performer or not.

If they give you the thumbs up, you''re good. If not, send her back and try again.

Let us know, ok?!

Will do, Ellen.

Thanks for your help everyone. I''ll post some pics when I get it.
