This is my first post (Hi

) but I have been lurking for a while trying to learn as much as I can. I have been planning on getting a new stone for my wife''s engagement ring for a while now and had just about decided I wasn''t going to find what I wanted on my budget.

This morning on goodoldgold I think I Might have found one that I will be pleased with that is within my budget, but I wanted to get feedback from some folks more knowledgeable than myself, so I would love to get feedback.

The stone can be found here.

I am still very much a neophyte, and this seems like it should cost a lot more than it does which from everything I''ve read here means that there is probably a problem with it, but I just don''t know enough to spot it.

Additionally, I am concerned about it being "eye clean" although I understand the subjectivity of that.

I have it reserved at the moment and I would certainly appreciate any feedback.

Hi Austen,

I can''t find a thing wrong with it. And at VS2, you most likely have no worries.

It''s a winner!

From a quick glance, I don''t see anything wrong with it. Ask Jon (or anyone else at GOG) for an Idealscope picture, and magnified pictures.

Thritto - looks like a winner!

Great choice! Since it's a VS2, I wouldn't worry about it being eye clean.

Welcome to PS!

The numbers are great on this stone!! I also wouldn''t worry about the clarity since it''s a vs2. I would ask GOG for additional images just to make sure of everything, but it looks lovely!

I think your wife is a lucky lady!

The price is very competitive, yes (luckily for us the internet fosters competition). Are you basing your feeling that it is too low on other internet prices or on local store prices? It's difficult to find comparable stones in that size range. In fact, I couldn't find any I VS2 stones online from 0.86 to 0.89. The 0.90's range from $3000 to $3750, and then BlueNile's are all in the $3900 to $4200 range. So your price seems good but not insanely low considering that these are stones of any cut quality and yours is an AGS0 H&A. And it's below 0.90 carat, which makes a difference.

GOG has a trade-up policy too, so you can upgrade again later should you choose.

Thanks a lot for the feedback :) I know a VS2 should be fine, I just worry about nto being able to see it :P

I e-mailed GOG and they added the additional images as requested. It seems to look really nice to me, but if anyone sees anything in the images or in the numbers, I would love to know before I wire the money :P

Regarding the price.. I am comparing to other online places.. H&A just seems to get out of my price range really quickly. I did not really think I could get one that size for < $3500.

And it''s still a winner!

Actually, upon further review.. on the Diamond1 picture, I see something that I don''t see on the microscopic..

Is this a problem with the diamond or the picture or what?

It's just the way the diamond was positioned in the picture, there's nothing wrong with it. Mine was slightly askew too.

Certainly looks like a winner to me!!!

it looks like a feather but since there is no grading report, it''s hard to tell.

If it is a feather, remember that it is being super magnified in the picture. A VS2 of that size should be eye-clean unless you have eagle-eyes, and even then, I can''t imagine you could see anything. I just bought a 0.52 SI2 sight unseen and can''t find a thing.

Well, I assumed your question meant something entirely different than belle and phoenix. Can you clarify what you''re asking?

Hehe.. I can try.. sorry...

Below the green arrow I put in, there appears to be a "white line" kind of like a feather I suppose on the black part of the "arrow" (I may be using the term wrong, sorry) of the diamond.. it looks like a significant imperfection to me. But I don''t see any sign of it on the microscopic or any of the other pictures.

It is hard to tell with these magnified pics- it could be a feather, but the only way to know for sure what it is, is to contact GOG and ask them.

It might even be a result of the pic set up and a non issue.

It''s not on the microscopic picture....so I''d just ask.

OK.. I called them and they assured me it was not an inclusion, but was just light (although I would have thought that light going through it like that would be a bad thing). So I guess I''m going to be wiring them some money tomorrow

This is going to be far and away my biggest jewelry purchase ever, so it''s kind of unsettling :P Thanks a lot for the help.. If I had not found these forums I would have spent more money on a bad choice.. you guys you know.. umm.... "rock".. *groan*

It''s a beautiful diamond! Congrats on your future purchase..

No problems, Austen. The only "payment" we ask for is that when the ring is done, to come back and post pictures of it here.
