We have a 52" flat screen LCD hanging on the wall..Trapper got pissed at London and threw JD's flashlight (which he is not to have but he gets it anyway) at the tv. I was in here busily typing away on here about if I ever dislike anyone on the internet, and heard this strange breaking/clinking sound and ohhhh boy. Bottom left corner. When the tv is on, the screen has lines of color thru it-striations I guess you 'd call them? and it looks like if you throw something thru glass-an appearance of a hole, spiderwebbing, shards etc. But, when the tv is off, there's just a small crack about the length of my pinkie nail.

Is this something that can be fixed or are we stuck buying a whole new tv? We're not even done paying on it-we got it 3 years no interest and have 1 year left.

Oh no! I guess you can price out how much it would be to replace the screen. I imagine it would be cheaper to buy a new one though.

Did you by chance buy a warranty that covers accidental? I would look into my homeowners or rental policies/home warranty/credit card to double check it wouldn't be covered.

Nope, no warranty. I think even if we did, we'd have to pay to ship the thing someplace-we bought it from Amazon. We could do homeowner's, but I don't know what that would do to our rates since we just had a hail claim this Spring. Can still check I guess! And I'll check into seeing if it can be fixed.

There goes my Chrysoberyl solitaire project. And there goes the surprise I was working on for JD this Fall-moving this tv downstairs and getting a bigger one for the living room.

The 55" was going to be moved downstairs and become "the little TV"? The *little* one? What are you doing, Packrat, opening up a multiplex theater?? ;))

Actually, that might not be a bad idea. If you charge the neighbors $6 for a popcorn and $4 for a can of Coca Cola, you'll be able to make up the cost of the TV damage in no time!!

(No, in all seriousness, definitely check your homeowners' policy. From what I understand, repairs are now a foreign concept in the world of television lifecycles unfortunately. Good luck; on the plus side, it sounds like you have a rambunctious, fun-filled household-- which in the end is always much better than any "stuff"!)

I'm hoping they can, we are having our new "old" one looked at today. Again, never, buy a used TV :nono:

We live in a throw-away-buy-a-new-one culture now.

Sad.

FDL-haha I know it! We watch a lot of movies and I have my tv shows on dvd that I really like to watch-I love having a big screen to watch them on.

JD called to the local store to see what it would cost to fix-$500-$800, I can't remember exactly what he said.

It'll get fixed at some point-we just don't have the cash lying around to do it now. It's not going to get tossed. We'll either bring the old one up from downstairs or mom and dad have one in their basement that never gets watched mom said we could borrow. I emailed a woman I worked w/at State Farm to see if it's worth claiming. $500/deductible, unless we get a brand new one and can keep this one to repair later I don't think it would be worth it, but still, I'd rather know for sure.
