Hi there,

I''m looking for a new ultra sonic jewellery cleaner and thought I would ask the experts to see if there a preferred model or brand?
Not sure if this makes a difference, but I have a pave wedding set.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You will find this one a very good unit, being sold by my old firm, AGA. Out of about 100 sold, I had to exchange 1 over the past few years. Units very much like this one are sold on many sites and they are rather similar, I believe. The price varies widely, but I don''t think paying more will get you a more reliable unit unless you get into the professional level which is in the hundreds of dollars.

The real problem you face is how well your pave'' diamonds are set. Leaving the ring in the ultrasonic the first couple of times will tell you just how securely the diamonds are set. I recommend you use a small tea strainer to be sure not to misplace any diamonds which may fall out.

Thanks for the link and the reccomendation!

I''m not the one that asked, but I was looking for one as well.

I have the Sharper Image US cleaner and I like it. Here are a couple of good threads to look at:

I''m not sure about pave in the US...there is a lot of info on PS about the subject and the opinions are definitely mixed. I put my ER in my US and I lost a couple of small stones, although I''m not sure when they fell out or if this corresponded with US use. Also, I ended up having my setting completely re-done, so I''m not sure if losing the stones was more about shoddy work than anything else. I haven''t put my new setting in the US. Some people feel that well done pave will be fine, while others don''t think pave should go in a US and have posted many other great cleaning techniques.

Well as the Sharper Image is in the middle of Bankrupcy proceedings I'd be a bit leary of buying anything there assuming that you can even find one of their stores that are still open. I think the current plan calls for all of them to be closed by August.

I personally have a clone of the cleaner mentioned above no problems yet but I've only had it 2 weeks or so.

EDIT: Actually I have the exact cleaner referenced above. I was originally shopping for an ASET/Idealscope with a source in the US as opposed to Australia, and got the cleaner as a bonus.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
Are there any known cleaners with 2 trays...? Just curios.

I don''t know of any ultrasonics which come with two inserts. If you want to keep your items from touching one another during the cleaning, then use separate tea strainers or do each item singly. It only takes a minute or two per piece anyways. They are a little like microwave ovens in that the more you put into them the longer the cleaning (cooking) takes.

Thank you for the tea strainer idea. Why I haven''t thought of that before, I don''t know. Brilliant. I think I should go look for a plastic strainer (not metal), right? Unless, the things won''t bounce around too much-- in my us, the things shimmy (word?) across the bottom and into each other- drives me crazy.

Quick question about the strainer, for pave or non-pave. If it is not good to put things next to eachother in the US (I guess they could ding eachother), wouldn''t the ring also move around in the strainer also and potentially get "hurt"? Of maybe the issue is more the diamond on diamond concern, keep them seperate so they don''t scratch eachother.

Wow, that''s nice. I have a simple, inexpensive model my dh got me a long time ago. I hate to throw it out, so gotta make do. I need something like a spikey grid thing I can put in my basket. The basket that I have is one big square weave thing.
