So this is the diamond that i want to get for my stud, i ran it through the cut adviser and the score is 3.1 and this is a GIA with 3 Excellents. I would think the score will be under 2 or 1. I guess i am a little confused by the out come. Thank for reading.

Look at the HCA plot, you will see the outline for the proportion that GIA considers to be Ex cut, and how much of it is in the low score region.

Your stone''s proportion falls into that region, so it got a Ex in cut by GIA but might not be that good a performer especially when dirty.

Ditto.

All the labs and tools have ranges for their various cut grades, and those ranges don't all match up. Better to trust the numbers themselves.

Hi Cutie

Because a diamond has the GIA Excellent cut grade, this does not guarantee an excellently performing stone. This cut grade can include some diamonds of less effective proportions.

As for your diamond, the HCA score is coming from the slightly steeper pavilion angle, this can penalize a stone in such cases. However for an earring the diamond might have potential, but an Idealscope image is needed if you can get one.

I just wanted you to know that I had a visit with Excellent Diamond Cutters. They are truly legit and they have a an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. They also have exellent prices for certified GIA stones. I highly recommend that you check out their site. Excellentdiamondcutters.com
