Can an Oval Glow Like a Round Brilliant?

Can an oval diamond ever really match the crisp, clear, bright, lit-from-within look of a round brilliant?

I currently own a 0.63 ct oval diamond necklace, G/H color, I clarity set in yellow gold. I tried on a 0.62 ct J color, SI2 clarity round brilliant in a thick bezel also set in yellow gold and was struck by how much more the round diamond glowed despite the think bezel. I have a floating round brilliant necklace and round brilliant ring set in white gold, and they also glow compared with my oval ring (admittedly set in yellow gold) with similar specs.

In short, I’m wondering if it would be worth talking to my jeweler to upgrade the color/clarity/cut of the oval or whether I should sell the oval and get a round brilliant to truly get the look I want.

Thanks for your input! I’m truly a diamond novice and have learned so much here!IMG_3920.png

Cut is everything - no matter the diamond shape. Your oval could also be very included at an I1 or I2 clarity making it rather lifeless and the cut of the diamond will always be a factor. However, a round brilliant diamond, when properly cut, will give you lots of sparkle and scintillation. It sounds like you much prefer the look of a round diamond, so my vote would be to trade it for a round if you are able to do that. Life is short - get what you truly love!

Thank you so much for the encouragement and confirmation that RBs will probably be more likely to give me the look i want:-)
