Can an earring be set as a ring?

Hello everyone! My name is, Noelle. I am new to the forum, although I''ve been a browers and fan for years! I am inthe market for an engagment ring and am looking at three options through an acution house. One is a single earring stud that is of wonderful quality. I''d prefer to gothis route vs size. Does anyone know if diamonds cut for earrings and rings are vastly different? I''d hate to buy a diamond and not be able to set it!

You can set any diamond you want into a ring pretty much. Just make sure that there are no large chips in the girdle and I would try to get it appraised before purchase if you can to make sure you know what you are paying for.
