or do i need to go with a vs 2 stone ?
thanks

You have to see a SI1 to know if it's eye clean.

Sure. A magnified picture 'face up' would show inclusions even more than the actual stone (the sparkle, not captured in the pic, does a very good job at hiding inclusions) - so one would help.

The plots on lab reports are not very intuitive: every feather and spot appears much more evident in colored ink on white paper than it does as transparent irregularity in a transparent crystal and 3D. These plots may help at a first cut: small scattered inclusions would be more discrete than a big blob over the face of the stone, even if both 'pictures' could be called SI1. Some inclusions would be more or only visible from the pavilion, and this would also be indicated on the report.

Wether inclusions are obvious or not will detrmine the price of an SI, somewhat. However, there is no reason to go VS before inspecting SIs.

Just my 0.2, of course.

Hi,

Q. Can a top ideal cut H SI 1 2.75 ct be eye clean ?

A. Yes, but not necessarily.

Ask the vendor, this is a crucial question, as some SI-1's will be eye clean, and some not.

After the stone is set, it may be harder to see an inclusion (if it is under or near a prong or lines up with a prong)

However, when (not if) the ring gets dirty and you get a film on the bottom of the stone, it is easier to see into the stone and see inclusions.

Well, I personally would only worry about whether or not the ring is eye-clean when it's clean.

It's about $2.99 for a jar of jewelry cleaner......I'd rather pay that than pay an extra $800-1000K to jump up to VS2.

In large carat weight diamonds, it becomes easier to see inclusions thru the pavillion. Sometimes even in VS clarity. It will vary from stone to stone, and depend on the type of inclusions, and the setting you plan to mount in.

I would suggest working with a Vendor who physically has possession of any diamond you are considering. The Vendor can screen the diamond for you and tell you what they see. They can even send you pics from various different angles so you can get a feel for the visibility of inclusions prior to purchase. Or, have the diamond sent to an approved, Independent appraiser prior to purchase. Get a qualified second opinion.
