Hello everyone,

Can a private individual (non-vendor; non-retail) send his or her diamond to GIA for grading and inscription? If so, what is the approximate costs? Can this be done with the stone set, or must it first be taken out of the setting? I''m not sure why I am asking really - just curious more than anything.

Anyone know the answers? Thanks.

i''m pretty certain this has to be done through a tradesperson.

The charge for grading depends on the size of the stone - $118 for 1ct. - inscription cost for report # = $18 for 1ct. - AND you will wait about 6 weeks to have it done.

Oh, and the stone will have to be un-mounted.

From what I have heard anyone can send a stone to GIA for grading, it''s something like $200?

I have never done it, so I am not sure.

But if I also recall, EGL and AGS only work with trade?
