Can a cavity be on the outside of a diamond?

I've attached my AGS certificate. I haven't seen the diamond yet. It is still at BGD because I haven't decided on a setting.
The clarity plot looks exactly the same as the previous GIA one did (that was an SI1) except now the inclusions look bigger on the plot.
I'm worried about the cavity and the feather that looks like it touches the girdle. Should I be?

A diamond undergoes incredible extremes of heat and pressure during sawing, bruting and polishing. Cavities can appear during that process; typically when a surface-reaching crystal is forced out or if a portion of a feather breaks away. The good news is that a diamond will never be subject to the extreme pressure or heat it endured during fashioning during normal wear, so you can consider it "stable."

To be on the safe side I would always encourage examination of such a diamond by a capable gemologist. With BGD you're in good hands there... As an additional note; since one of the feather/cavities is at the girdle be sure that a skilled craftsman is involved in setting, since pressure will be applied in that circumstance. There again, you're in great hands with BGD.

A final piece of advice: Be sure to secure an insurance policy that covers loss or damage for this or any other valuable piece of jewelry. I say this to anyone - even those with Flawless diamonds - since all diamonds have cleavage planes which could chip if struck "just so" (that's what insurance is for).
