Can a 8/10ct diamond measure 4mm?

That just seems a little disproportionate. I understand that diamonds of an older cut can be bottom heavy, but to only face up 4mm? I'd hope around 5.5mm. Am I missing something?
Of course there's no measurements listed, but what can expert opinion assume from this listing?

Okay, I had to go look at my diamond reports. My .65 ct. diamonds are between 5.5 and 5.6mm. My .80 ct. diamond is 6.0mm. I think a .5 diamond is around 5.2mm. So that stone is really nowhere near .80 in appearance if it is 4mm. And I doubt it is deep enough to achieve that weight at all. I wouldn't trust a vendor with that kind of error on a listing, personally.

Yeah, I agree with diamondseeker. It doesn't make sense that this stone is 4mm AND .80, there must be an listing error. I'm not sure that I wouldn't trust the vendor if they have strong feedback, but I would definitely ask ALOT of questions before I went any further. She also mentioned that the last appraisal was done in '93, and that would concern me as well. I would want the stone independently appraised to be sure that there has been no additional damage to the stone.

Something is def. wrong. I have a .70 that measures 5.7mm to put it into perspective.

I checked a few diamond mm charts online, and a 4mm stone is about .25 carats, so something isn't right (even taking into account older cuts sometimes face up a little smaller). I'm thinking a mistake in the listing? I'd ask the seller.

Yeah, its weird. The stone, from pictures, looks cool though.
First I asked her the measurements, she said a little under 1/4 and inch, which made sense. Then she updated her listing to write 4mm. Something is DEFINITELY off. She also took down the pictures of it near measuring tape.
It's all very strange. It's either a great deal for an old stone, or a rip off for a smaller-than-should-be stone.
Also, she didn't respond to my inquiry about the 4mm thing. Ebay sellers can be weird...

I have an 0.76 which measures 5.52mm - it's also an OEC/OMC and is very deep.

4mm is roughly 0.25 carats. It may be that deep at 0.80 carats, but it wouldn't be that wide.

Yeah I have a SUPER DUPER DEEP .63 OEC and it faces up 5.2 Something is wonky. In an old cut I'd say 35-40 points MAX and that's if it is SUPER deep. I had .32 H&A's and they faced up 4.3-4.4 so... no way is that anything over 40ish points max.

That diamond, if it does wweight 8/10 of a ct (0.80ct) could not possibly be 4mm in diameter. It could be 4mm deep and about 6mm across, but that is mere speculation on my part. Likely as not, the weight is estimated and the seller has no idea of how to make a measurement. A 6mm diameter with a depth of 63% (3.78mm) would be just above 0.80ct.
