Can $7500 - $10000 buy a nice "large" diamond?

I'm afraid not. You can do a search on PS and quickly find out you are way underbudget for those specifications. Even a 1.75 carat J SI diamond will be around $10,000 and that's not an Ideal Cut stone.

http://www.whiteflash.com/round/Round-cut-diamond-680218.htm btw, I wouldn't recommend this stone, the pavillion angle is too big.

I would take your girlfriend diamond shopping (she will love this) and look at Ideal Cut stones in different carat weights, colors, clarities, etc. I think if she becomes more educated, she may pitch for a smaller stone (less than 2 carats) if she can have better color & clarity in your budget.

Hi. Welcome to PriceScope!! I agree with Joe that you are probably a little ambitious with your budget. If you want the biggest, colorless, least flawed diamond you can get for 10,000, then you are probably going to be limited to around 1.5ct. Is your budget just for the diamond, or for the whole ring? Here's a really nice stone at GoodOldGold for you to look at that is just under your budget:

If you want to go down in clarity even more, here's another one that could be good, assuming its eye clean:

Either one of these stones would be worth looking in to. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you could have the biggest stone in the world, and if its not well cut, it will just look like a piece of glass. There is a great search tool at the top of the page that will help you find excellently cut diamonds. But if you want the biggest, then go for SI clarity and probably I-J color

There are also many vendors, Whiteflash is one of them, who have an upgrade policy. You could start with a diamond in your price range now, and upgrade later to get to the 2 carats.

You didn''t say whether you wanted a round brilliant or whether you were open to other shapes, so I would suggest getting an oval shaped stone. They look larger than rounds for their weight, and they are generally cheaper per carat than rounds. Here''s an example of one for $10,000 that''s almost 2 carats.

Of course fancy shaped stones have to be seen in person to judge what they look like, but I''m just giving you more options. Also, most vendors give a discount for pricescope, so make sure you mention it whichever vendor you use.

Ditto previous comments, cut should definitely be your priority - I would aim for an H/I/J color to get the most for your money, but get an ideal cut and it should face up white (my I does anyway!) also, another good thing to remember is 2 carats is considerably more expensive than, say a 1.7-1.9 carat and there is not a huge difference (granted, there is a difference,) but there is a big price-hike to get that 2 carats.

Ditto Ovals!

Stay away from anything square.

I would definitely drop down to an eyeclean SI and drop color to at least an I (J if you are going for a round) and concentrate on an ''ideal'' cut.

Here''s one to consider in your budget:

That''s just perfect. Lovely size, fabulous cut. If it''s eyeclean... I''d say that it''s a very strong possibility.

GOG has an upgrade policy so you guys could work toward a 2 carat stone. And you can put it in a very simple white gold setting for now, so that when you do upgrade you don''t lose a ton of money on a setting.

I have seen this stone in person, when visiting the WF office last week. It is VERY well cut, faces up white, and will be eye clean. The only real inclusion is on one part of the crown near the girdle (can see it in bottom left side of image). However, the image on the website makes this appear worse than it is. Mr. Gavin at WF told me that this could be hidden well under a prong. The stone also has a very good spread for the quality of the cut.

Hi Eddie and welcome!

I would like to also suggest the idea of a halo setting, which is what I have. My center stone, seen in my avatar, is 1.4, but when you add a halo to it, it definately makes the overall look of the ring seem larger. We weren''t able to go higher than a 1.4, but when people see my ring, one of the first things they say is, "Wow that is a huge ring" because of the combination of the center stone and halo. Mine is a bezel setting halo from Ritani''s Endless Love collection, but there are a lot of wonderful vendors here who can create gorgeous halo rings. I would suggest a keyword search of "halo" on this site if you are interested in seeing other styles, as there are some stunning rings here to look at!
