Hi strmrdr, I was hoping that you could let me know what you think of the drop in my stone - good or not so good? Do you see this in every asscher? I see it in some lights and not in others, so I''m wondering whether it''s a flaw in the cut, or just a circumstance of lighting? Here are the specs, and then a picture of the stone with the dark space showing:

GIA - Square Emerald Cut
7.20 x 7.10 x 4.94 mm
Carat weight: 2.20 ct
Color: H
Clarity: VVS2
Total depth: 69.6%
Table size: 65%
Girdle: Medium
Culet: None
Polish: Very good
Symmetry: Good
Flourescence: None

interesting asscher.
I like it :}

The center bright area is larger than in most drop style asschers.
its more a wide step with no separation between the center and step.
There looks like enough dark areas to give it a nice drop appearance.
Should be pretty bright as far as asschers go.
Do you know the crown height?
A side shot would be nice too.

windmills are on the narrow side but that's a preference issue.
congrates!!

Hey, thanks for the ASET image - is that a good one? The other pic does look like my stone, too. Do you know if there''s any way to do an ASET or Idealscope image on a set stone?

SOOOOO TRUEEEEEEE. I *still* can''t get over how different they are "live" than in photos. And how ever teensy movement shows a completely new pattern.

I also noticed a slight difference in the overall apperance in my stone when I switched from a "V" type prong arrangement like yours to a "divet" style drop-the-stone-down-into-a-metal-well type situation. Before==The prongs would cast shadows I guess from certain angles, or block light or something?? But now that the whole area is sort of the same on the bottom I can''t recreate the effect anymore??

MYSTERIOUS LITTLE WONDERS! Baffling! Infuriating! Entrancing! Beloved.

the setting can reflect light up thru the stone in the leakage zones as well as be seen thru them so the setting can have an effect of them.
its kewl if ya ask me :}

Hi deco,

Interesting comment about the setting. I have been thinking about switching mine to something like Harlow''s - basket setting with double prongs. Is yours also sort of a basket like that? And did you prefer the light reflection with the v-type prong, or the basket?

Thanks!

To starryeyed - thanks! I also just checked out the thread on your asscher - gorgeous! I can''t wait to see it in the enw setting? Did you decide to go with LM or Whiteflash?

To cehra - thanks about the setting! It''s a Veraggio - I didn''t even know that they did solitaires until the jeweler brought it out in the store. I really love it, but now that I''ve seen the claw prongs here on PS, I''m thinking about having them redo the prongs - not sure if I want single or double claw though ...
