I have always been fascinating by natural stones.

My love grew, of course, into diamonds and precious stones. But before that I was an avid stone collector- quartz, tourmaline, garnets, Herkimer diamonds, obsidian in natural organic shapes and spheres. I''d travel on a strickly hobbyist level on mining trips to Herkimer County , Arizona, and New Mexico to collect stones.

Any one else, share this interest? If you have a stone collection please post pictures. Is this right forum? If not admin please redirect.

Here is one of my favorite rutilated spheres with planes with a large amythyst.

Nice!

What is the purple sphere - is it quartz too?

Yssie, the purple sphere is an amythyst. The golden yellow one in this picture is a citrine.

That''s really cool

I loved seeing those spheres and points in the DC Natural History museum gift store, but that''s about as close as I''ve gotten to owning one. They''re very pretty!
