Not to threadjack: But yes, I lost it and that was the last picture I had of it. I last had my set on Saturday... I was eating at a cajun seafood restaurant (think shrimp with crab boil and spices in a bag) so I took it off to eat.. and forgot to put them back on :(. I didn't realize it till the next day when I went to put them back on and realized they were not on my jewelry tray. We went back to the restaurant and no one found anything, and then 2 employees and my husband and I went dumpster diving since they didn't pick up the trash yet. Nothing found. The manager said he would call us if they found anything and asked the employees that were there Saturday night if they found anything.

;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( I know exactly what restaurants you're talking about. Boiling Crab!! AHHHHH. I want to cry for you!! I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for them to find it, and that it's not just swiped! Did you guys get a metal detector to go through their trash?

I was just talking about these types of necklaces that hold your rings with Mico last month.. Please get one of these! ESP since you work in a hospital, too! Oh, I'm so sad for you..

Did you have your rings insured??

It is such a horrible situation! ;( I spoke to her in the comments of her picture on Jbeg's Facebook. She did have insurance, thank goodness! Hopefully she will find an equally beautiful ring to take it's place!

OH! I just saw that right now! Ah I'm still so sad though! :(sad It's my biggest fear to lose a ring like that.. Or like how I almost dropped mine down the drain!

I just can't help but get upset at the thought that someone sitting next to her might have been eyeballing her set the whole time, just WAITING for her to leave. UGH. ;(

Aw, that's rough :blackeye: But maybe somehow, it'll still turn up?

I dropped an earring down the drain once, it was the sink drain though (was washing it). Immediately turned off water, brought a bucket, and got FI to unscrew the U-shaped pipe under the sink. Got the earring out safe and sound. Never washing it over an open sink again.

Good luck R of L!

I know, it is terrible. I share the same fear as you. Sometimes I can be somewhat absentminded when dealing with chaos around me. I will really have to be aware of my ring when I get it. The idea of getting a ring to hold rings is a good idea, I might have to get one.

It takes a horrible and dishonest person to take her ring instead of turn it in. Sadly, there seem to be more dishonest people than honest these days. Thank goodness for insurance!

Yikes! I am glad that you and your FI were able to get it back.

Darn jewelry and diamonds for being so small and easy to lose!

GEEZZUUSSS!! My fiance loves those Boiling Crab/Hot n Juicy/Crab Hut places! Ever since I gave her her E-Ring, she brings the box along to put it in there and I make sure she has it in there and to check before we leave that we have it. She always says " I can eat carefully", but I think of all the grease and juice and red sauce and how it'll get into the prongs/pave... hell no! She doesn't want to ruin it, so she doesn't take a chance and takes it off and puts it in her box and then purse!!

I feel bad for the OP... :(sad :(( ;(

Madelise: Yeah.. it's a place just like BC, but better (doesn't have the super long wait times and it's sweet/spicy instead of spicy/salty). I am so OCD about my rings, that I had to take them off to eat. I can't stand the thought of dunking my precious rings in that gunk. They didn't find anything in their lock box and none of the servers picked anything up. On Sunday, the dumpster wasn't picked up yet.. so 2 employees volunteered to go dumpster diving with us (we're regulars so they felt really bad about my rings esp since we just got married). Looked through all the bags and found our order.. (sad, we can tell by what's in the butcher paper and my tell tale gum wrapper) and it was no where to be found.

Do you have a link for these necklaces? At work, I just keep them on since I use gloves all day long and it's not a concern for them to rip the glove open. They are insured, via Jeweler's mutual... I'm just worried about how much they are going to pay out since it was an eye-clean I1 J AVC. I don't see any comparables.. the closest is a 1.07 M Si2 for 4700 and the spread is smaller than mine was. Since it's a branded cushion I know it costs more than an unbranded.. but sigh.. haven't heard anything yet from JM.

Sadly, the economy is bad and diamonds are a commodity. :( We even have to inventory any and all belongings at the hospital because people WILL steal from patients whether they work there or are visiting the patient. It's that BAD. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

I once found a wallet full of money ($700) and credit cards, ect I turned it into the police station and said someone dropped this at the market. The officer was so surprised there was cash in it still. *shrug*

I know the feeling, I can't stand the thought of all of that oozing through every crevice in my ring. I usually am really careful, but I had only gotten 4 hrs of sleep that day and I had been up since 5 am for my 6 am shift. :( It was a busy day at work so I was really tired by the time 9pm rolled around..

Horrible!! ;( ;(

As an aside JM does not Pay out in cash, you can find your own replacement and they will pay for it as long as it matches your appraisal. So you can order something from Jon... I hope they will let you pick something else available an maybe pay the difference? Your stone was essentially irreplaceable -- eye clean clarity like that is not common. And the setting cannot now be replacced though :blackeye: I'm sorry!

AND you know this now but PSA to all the readers -- NEVER EVER take your rings off in a public place!! If you do, put them in your purse in a zipper compartment!

Waaaahh!! How aweful!

We live close to a Boiling Crab and have never been. Now I'm going to remember to live the bling at home! I hope you love your replacement MORE than you did the original honey.

BTW-- I live in the Bay Area-- what's the better place with no lines? I'd love to know.

Dreamer: Yeah, I know they don't cash out... but I was trying to see what equivalents are out there right now since it's insured up to 6300 for just the diamond. As far as I know, you can pick something else and pay the difference. The only thing is for being a 1.07 carat cushion.. it had really decent spread 6.08 X 6.18. The closest thing I see to the same spread would be around the 1.12 and up. With a super squeeky clean i1. :( I was just sick to my stomach when I realized it was gone. I know now to never take that sucker off.. even with boiling crab -esque foods. I'll just suck it up and let the grease encompass the ring and then just clean the heck out of it when i get home.

Gypsy: Thank you, your sentiments mean a lot.. especially since you helped me avoid the dreaded mustache halo ;)

I live in SoCal, so the alternative place we frequent a lot is "The Kicking crab" which has a larger menu and more varied items than one can find at boiling crab. I find the staff here is a lot more attentive than boiling crab and the food a lot tastier (although, some may argue it isn't). I mean heck, two of their staff volunteered to go digging through day and a half old seafood trash without even batting an eyelash.. that's what I call service.

Oh god. I just panicked for you. I eat with my left hand (fork I mean) and I dunk all the time, so I do sometimes take at least the ering off to avoid the gunky possibility. But man that's HORRIBLE. I feel like either someone walked off with them, or they're in some trash bag somewhere. God I feel for you.

As far as the claim...I think Jon will help them with valuation and you find something similar. I am pretty sure they work with JM so they can definitely help with that.

Oh, I'm so sorry! :(

This is why I don't wear my own e-ring as often as I should. I am too paranoid!

I have a question regarding JM and their replacement process...

If you have a stone that is, say, 1.5 cts G VS1 XXX, and it was appraised at $XYZ, do they replace the stone for what it IS (and to YOUR liking) i.e. 1.5 ct G VS1 XXX OR do they replace the stone for UP TO $XYZ? That confuses me... if they replace up to $XYZ, technically you can get a slightly larger stone or better color or something else as long as it's UP TO $XYZ, correct?????

They replace with like kind and quality (i.e. 1.5 ct G VS1 XXX ) but only pay up to your insured value. If like kind and quality costs more you will not get more. They will not replace with something better than what you had, that is why inflated appraisals are useless.

If it worked like you are describing then everyone would just get an appraisal for 10x what their ring is worth and upgrade when they lost something ;))

Hey sorry ROL! I was thinking of you today and pulled this thread up. Totally forgot to follow up! I'm a bad thread starter :(

The necklaces are here:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/AloraLocks
http://emilyc.com/
Or you can get a charm holder too.

Not many choices, but they'll do if it means security for your ring!

Any updates to your claim? Search for replacement?

Yes, I'd like to know if there's any update - I'm so heartbroken for you, your ring was gorgeous! Thank goodness you have insurance and can hopefully recreate it if you haven't found it.

Well, nothing so far.. we just got back into the country Sunday evening. I lost the e-ring RIGHT before our 20 day Euro Trip :(

JM required me to file a police report, get a letter from the restaurant stating that we did inform them of our loss right away and that they did indeed go dumpster diving with us, two notarized statements of loss from myself and someone who could verify the loss. I'm still waiting on a copy of the police report (the PD said it would take 3-4 weeks since they just laid off a bunch of people).

I am not going to go with an AVC again, I am going to go with a true antique cushion and JBEG is sourcing it for me. It will take a while to find something that really sings to me again.. but Erica and Grace are the best! I do wonder though, since the prices for AVCs have gone up after we purchased the AVC and since there are no real comparables, the closest would be the M SI2 of the 1.07.. while mine was a 1.07 J I1 (completely eye clean).. if they will give me the middle ground of what it was insured for? The appraisal was fo 6030 and I think it would be around 5300 right now if they had the same diamond. *Shrug

Thank you for showing me these items! I'm just afraid if the necklace should somehow come apart D: But these are adorable and I probably will end up getting one of these two ring holders :)

Once you have your claim approved by JM then you can talk to the claims adjuster about how they will handle the return. The adjusters have a little discretion generally speaking in insurance, but maybe not much :blackeye: Perhaps you will need a letter from Jon attesting to the fact that the stone was rare and difficult to replace and stating the current retail value? Though he might be less inclined the help out since you aren't buying another AVC!

Ooo, this one looks simple enough.. but I wonder if I can even wear it considering my ears always have a reaction wearing anything but YG or platinum.

Thanks for updating us, ROL! Im glad there's a plan already for replacement. I hopethey dont give you trouble for finding a perfect stone to replace it w/!

I like that charm enhancer from T&Co but from what I know, it's sold out and discontinued???

I probably will, it was definitely one in a million.

Madelise:

The YG one is out of stock, but the sterling silver one is still available on the website, not too sure about in stores.

This is my biggest fear. I've been searching for "ring pendants", the one i've found I love the most is redic expensive, however. So I search for similar items.

Has anyone else successfully found a good necklace alternative? Tiffany had a nice charm pendant that I am also considering - i just don't like how the chain is attached and it's not an actual pendant.

Here's the one i love: http://emilyc.com/
Tiffany's: http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=24945561

let me know if anyone knows of alternatives! I'm sorry for your loss :(

edit: i didn't read all the way through! madelise already got here :) haha, i also did a thorough search for "horseshoe pendants" on etsy and found some contenders. I figured I would by when I actually had my ring on hand vs. just purchasing at random, haha.

i thought so too! But i just successfully stuck it in my cart. I'm still weary... :/, but might just buy one for my friend for her birthday. Every girl loves tiffany

We just got the Tiffany enhancer today, it's a sturdy little charm holder, a bit awkward putting my ring through it; but that just assures me my rings will not just fall out randomly. Not too sure about the silver yet.. since I can't wear white gold due to allergies.
