Hello there,

We are still in "deciding" mode as to how/what we are going to do about my e-ring. Absolutely we want a blue sapphire in the 2.5-3 carat range with a diamond pave/melee band, something "subtantial". I love both of your rings so much -- not sure if I can achieve that with the budget I have . . .

Missrocks -- my BF has "decided" that your style ring is the "ultimate" and the most gorgeous thing he has ever seen!!! (He called me TWICE at work to tell me that) So, to be so bold, would you be willing to give me a "range" of what your setting and sidestones cost? And what size again is your center???? I think with the size I want this type of setting is out of my league, but can''t hurt to ask for my big old bold size 9 fingers. Also, please feel free to say "uh, biotch, stay away from my ring!!!!!"

Poshpepper -- you mentioned that your ring was a custom job and came in under my $4K budget -- was that for stones and setting? What size are your center and side stones? I am interested in a similar style with a squarish cushion cut center -- wondering if the rounds work with that or if I should go for half moons in a halo?

Sorry if I am asking the "taboo" questions -- I am just trying to get a feel for what will be possible with our budget. At this point I am guessing we''ll spend $2200-$2500 on the center sapphire (bigger, better quality) and $1500-$2000 (gotta bump that budget!!!) on the setting. Really, at this point, for a ring I wont ever upgrade, I feel I need $5K. Would love your thoughts . . . . thanks!!!!!

LOL...You are so funny! I can't ever imagine myself saying this to anyone.
I'm so flattered my ring has been an inspiration to you. My sapphire was 3.40cts measuring 9.1 x 8.2mm, to give you an idea.

As far as pricing goes, I think a sapphire in that size range is possible for your budget. Mine was over what you want to spend, but was more saturated than some of the other sapphires I had looked at. I have seen some pretty stones in your price range. Just depends on what color of blue or violet you want and how intense you want it. Also, look at stone measurements, not just carat weight, since one of your concerns is finger coverage. I saw a link for www.ajsgems.com in another thread- this can give you a better idea of size/ color/ pricing.

My setting also is a bit more than what you wanted to spend. Like Leon, it was custom handmade pave', which puts it into about the price range of some of his similar settings. I'll just put it into the "over 5K" category by the time the price of the half moons is factored in. I know you don't nesessarily have to have this quality of pave' to get a pretty setting, but it was what I feel in love with- once I saw it, I knew I had to have it...

I also had done a lot of research on what types of pave' would be most durable- a big issue for me, so that also factored into my descision.

Good luck with your ring search! You must keep us updated!

I just responded on your other thread (didn't see these until today sorry!)

My ring was not completely custom (sorry if I said that
40.gif
) rather the semi-mount was in the store and had prongs to hold the center stone which I did not want. The jeweler modified the setting to make the center bezel.
My center stone is almost exactly 2cts and my side stones are .15 each (they look bigger in the bezels!)
Also, I think with a cushion you should get the half-moons, I love the half-moons, and think they will look a lot better with a cushion than rounds would (i.e. missrocks HOTER THAN HOT ring!!!)
Any setting that you get completely custom and hand made (with lots of pave) will most likely be out of your budget (They were definitely out of mine!). I think it would be better budget wise to get a ready-made semi mount and have a stone set in it like I did. I think that is what kept me under the 4k mark. It will be important to find a reputable jeweler that does high quality pave in their mounts so you don't have to worry about losing stones so much.
Good luck on your search, I am so looking forward to what you end up with

ETA -- I just saw that you have a 5k budget (is this right?)... I think with 5K you could get your hand made setting (depending on how intricate you want it) with pave if you compromise a little on the center stone (i.e. allow sapphires that have been heated or are not quite as saturated as missrocks).
This is VERY do-able!!!

Here is an example for the center stone... $2200... 2cts and heated: http://www.ajsgems.com/product/c33ededd-a369-418b-a367-f77683bee7c7.aspx
Leaving $2800 for the setting.

One last thing... blue sapphires are more expensive than yellows so I think that will be a main difference in prices between your project and mine. My sapphire was under 1.5k which allowed me to put most of my budget into the setting.

HTH and good luck with everything!!!!

You guys are so awesome. This extra info really helps. Poshpepper I had not thought of a semi-mount -- that may be a really good option. I can''t believe your side stones are .15!! I was guessing .25-.3. Also agree with half moons -- I just love how they look with a cushion sapphire. Thanks for sharing

I love the yellow sapphires -- but my heart is set on the blues -- maybe a lighter saturation would work to get me to the size I want . . .

MissRocks . . . you''ve been so kind to share so much info on your ring. I was re-reading through when you originally posted your glamour shots -- you side stones also look so much larger than .42. I love how you almost can''t tell where the stones end and the pave starts . . .

Going to do some more research tonight -- Happy Valentine''s Day . . . .

PoshPeppar, where did you buy your sapphire from?
