I''ve finally made my decision and can''t thank you all enough for your help. My only unresolved issue is the prong setting for the center stone. (I''m doing a 60% eternity e-ring and w-band). Any suggestions on those prongs, they''re driving me crazy

I am interested in having the e-ring fir as flush as possible to the w-band, but have been cautioned to avoid a "peg setting". What type of center stone prong arrangement do you have and would you recommend it?

My ring looks closest to Teebee''s, but I''m just not sure ablout the bar under the center stone. I''m trying to include a picture but I. having trouble. I''ll keep at it though. Thanks!

I would be glad to help in any way that I can. I guess I''m not sure what exactly you want guidance with - Is it that you are concerned about security of the peg type setting? Or trying to find a prong arrangement that would provide more security while still allowing for a flush fit with a wedding band? And I guess I''m not sure what you mean by the "bar" under the center stone?

. I am concerned about the security of the head sitting on just a small peg as opposed to being soldered in. But am I worrying needlessley. If it a peg setting is a bit more vulnerable, are there other settings/heads that still allow a flush fit. WF is makink my setting and I think it will very much resemble yours. Is yours a peg head, and have you had any problems with it? Thanks again for your help!

did you ask WF about the security issue? they were very honest and upfront with me when I purchased my eternity band from them.

Well... to be honest Tyke, I''m not sure... but my assumption is that mine is probably a peg head. My biggest issues when having the ring made were the aesthetic properties: wanted it to look like an eternity (but not have an actual eternity band), wanted 4 prongs, wanted a Tiffany style head, and wanted to be able to have a wedding band sit flush w/ e-ring. Soooo, aside from those things, I put my trust in WF to make a beautiful, structurally sound ring. I do believe that if there were any significant concerns over the vulnerability of this type of head, then they would either not make them like this, or would at least inform their customers of this concern... For instance, Brian told me that he did not feel comfortable making the width of the ring any thinner than 2.3mm because he would have concerns about it''s structural integrity.

I do agree that you really should talk to WF about your concerns - I found them to be incredibly willing to share their professional expertise & experiences. You can even ask them what kind of head my ring has & let me know!!

I guess what I''m trying to say is... Perhaps, the peg head arrangement indeed has a slightly higher vulnerability than prongs built into the ring... But, as a consumer, I don''t feel that the failure rate is statistically significant enough to concern me. Seriously, how many peg head prong type settings exist in the world? Millions? And I''ve heard maybe 2 anecdotal reports of them breaking? Even then, neither of these reports were on solitaire type settings like mine. Also, given the excellent quality, craftsmanship, and customer service that WF offers, the very slight risk of the peg head is just not an overwhelming concern. And, no, I have not had any problems with ring whatsoever, although I''ve only had it since January. I''ve had it checked once just a couple of weeks ago and everything is a-okay!! I also got a lot of compliments on the ring & stones from the jeweler where I took it to be checked. And... ya know, $hit happens... if something breaks, it breaks... I''ve got insurance.

Oh, and I certainly don''t mind copying - it is certainly quite flattering to me when I get a PM about my ring or when I see one that was inspired by mine!! I totally could not be upset about that considering my ring was greatly inspired by Mara''s!

The ring that I had which broke had a fairly large head. It held nearly a full carat of diamonds. Perhaps peg sets are more secure for a single stone, since the head would probably be more compact and not have quite the spread of a cluster head. I still don''t think that I would want a peg setting for a pear or a marquise shaped stone, though...those types of stones tend to catch on things easier anyway, just because of their pointed shapes. I had a large marquise garnet solitaire ring once. It used to catch on EVERYTHING! It was a beautiful ring, but everytime I tried to put on a jacket, stick my hand into my purse, or any ordinary everyday type of thing you do with your hands, that ring would snag and catch on things. I ended up giving the ring to my sister, and I don''t think I''ve ever seen her wear it, either, come to think of it!
