.... and anyone else who wears a fishtail pave ring

May I just ask how you are getting along with it? Is it comfortable? Do you wear it everyday? Also have you lost any stones from it and how do you clean it?

Thank you

Hi Maisie!

My fishtail pave ring and I am getting along just fine, thank you!

Seriously, yes, it is very comfortable... and yes, I wear it every day, although I am careful and I don''t wear it to the gym, or when cleaning, gardening, etc. And yes, I did lose one stone very early on but WF replaced it and I haven''t had any problems since. I clean it with a soft baby toothbrush and ring cleaner (either purchased or homemade). I don''t clean it in the ultrasonic, though. And that''s probably the only bummer about the rings for me, and that is because I am afraid to use the US, I never really feel like my center stone is squeaky, squeaky clean.

But other than that, I love it. WF did a wonderful job, and I would call the workmanship and craftsmanship excellent.

Are you thinking of changing settings?

Thank you for answering my questions!

Yes I want to change settings. I have decided that I love this new diamond so much, that I don't ever want to upgrade it.

I want to have a setting with diamonds in it. I have come to the realisation that I am very careful with my ring and I can probably be trusted with something a bit more special!!

I want a new wedding band too. Your set made me go
30.gif

My only problem is if I did lose a stone, Whiteflash is such a long way from me. It would cost a fair bit to send it back if one did drop out. Saying that, I don't think I will wear the set all the time. I think I will get a plain white gold band to wear daily, and wear the posh set when I go out.

You say you don't want to use the ultrasonic for cleaning. Would it be possible to dangle the centre stone just inside the cleaner and hold it there without the other stones going into the water? I know when I worked in the jewellers he used to do that with delicate settings.

maisie--
great news that you''re thinking of changing your settings! however, i can''t help but feel a little nervous on your behalf. i know you don''t want to upgrade this beautiful new stone, but what if, maybe, that does happen? would you be able to set a larger stone into the existing fishtail pave setting, or would you have to scrap it and start over again? that''s a lot of shipping and waiting
32.gif
!!

that said, i think lynne b''s setting is gorgeous!

i don''t have an ultrasonic, but i clean my rings almost daily with a soft toothbrush and cleaner solution. if you aren''t wearing the new set all the time, you''ll probably be fine.

i wonder if maybe you could start off with the fishtail pave wb first and see how you like the solitaire with eternity band look. your stone is gorgeous and faces up plenty big on your hand, but i wonder whether the extra diamonds on its setting would detract from it? i have a bead-set half-eternity wedding set with a 1ct stone, and i feel that all those little diamonds overwhelm the stone. but maybe that''s just DSS setting in!

i started out with the half-eternity wb, then upgraded the e-ring. my mom pushed me to get the matching setting because she thought the plain solitaire looked ''boring'' next to the diamond band! go figure!
20.gif
. i told her i preferred the classic solitaire with eternity band (the stone looked larger), but it''s hard to say no to mothers...and extra bling!

if you know for certain that the eternity set is for you, then i think you should go for it! you can''t really go wrong with the WF fishtail pave. but if there''s a possibility that you might upgrade in the future, maybe it''s better to hold off on such large investment (even in pounds $4000 sure isn''t small change)?

good luck making a decision about your new setting!

oh, i just realized that WF has an upgrade policy, so it wouldn''t be as expensive as i had thought.

Hi Erica

I am 100% sure I won''t upgrade this diamond. I love it very much!
30.gif
I know I could take the $4000, upgrade it and get a beautiful diamond but in my heart I don''t want to.

I know I will buy another diamond at some point. Probably an emerald or asscher cut. So I can look forward to that!

I have always wanted an eternity set but wasn''t brave enough. I thought I might lose a diamond. Then I realised just how careful I am with my ring. I take it off as soon as I get home and it stays in its little box till I go out again (or until I am just sitting on the computer or watching tv, then I put it on and enjoy looking at it!!) I never wear it to do housework or anything which might do it damage. I know that it can get damaged while I wear it out and about, but thats the risk you take when wearing any type of fine jewellery. I do insure my ring so if an accident happens, its covered.

I see a lot of jewellery on PS. The only things that have made me catch my breath are Lynn B''s rings and anything by Leon Mege! I want to deal with Whiteflash as I know them and have always been happy with them. (Apart from when my emails bounce back to me - which isn''t their fault... its their spam thingy which doesn''t seem to like hotmail accounts!!).

The Leon ring I like best is $4500. I can get my wedding and engagement ring setting from Whiteflash for less than that. To be honest, I prefer the Lynn B set over the Leon.

Hi Maisie

just checking!

i''ve enjoyed following your upgrades, and i think that the fishtail pave eternity set will be beautiful! it sounds like you''ve made a firm decision to keep your stone. you''ll definitely have an amazing set of rings for your renewal of vows next year!

Maisie, I am so happy that you are so happy with your new stone! YAY!
36.gif

And I am also happy that you love my rings so much. That never ceases to flatter and thrill me!
16.gif

THAT SAID... if I could do it again, I think I would get a simple solitaire e-ring, (a'la Harriet's very thin-shanked cathedral Leon) and wear it with my (current) fishtail pave w-ring. That would give me the shimmer with the w-ring, the bold bling of the center stone with my e-ring... and a sqeaky clean center stone because it would be US safe, babeeee!!!!

Isn''t it funny how you would prefer what I have, and I love what you have!

I meant to ask you before, where did you lose the stone from and was it within weeks of you receiving it from WF? Was it from the underside of the shank?

Haha, yes, apparently the grass is always greener "on the other side of the pond"!

Wanna swap?!

I lost the stone within a few weeks... I can''t remember now exactly how long I had had the ring but it was less than a month, I think. It was from the area around where my fingers come together... not really the backside. More of the side. I think it was just some fluky thing, because like I said, I haven''t had any problems since. I get the ring checked every 6 months by a local jeweler, and of course I loupe it myself periodically, too.

It is a KILLER style... and I love it still. I just wanna clean it in the US!!!

I''d swap you in a minute! But only if I get your honkin big diamond too lol!!!!

It does sound like a fluke seeing as you haven''t had any other problems with it. I would get it checked often too, and like you I loupe a lot!

Can''t you dangle your centre stone into the US and clean just that diamond? If the pave aren''t in the water they can''t get damaged can they?

Ohhhh!!! Here is a thread I can intimately relate to! I have the "Lynn B" set as well, and I find it very comfortable. I wear my rings pretty much everyday and they feel very light on my finger. Haven't lost a stone yet, though I have placed it in the US. Lately after hearing about lost stones, I've been just using liquid jeweler cleaner. Like Lynn, I can sometimes see changing to a simple solitaire, but I just love my current set too much.

Maisie: I am so happy to hear that you are thoroughly happy with your stone. and so much so that you never want to upgrade?? You have a beauty on your hands.

I have actually tried that, Maisie. But my stone is set so low in the head (as I requested) that when I try to dangle it in the water, in order to submerse the entire head (thus getting the pavilion of the stone down in there), the first couple of melee stones on each side of the head are also in the water.

Bummer, huh?!

Onedrop, so glad to hear that you are still so happy with your killer ring and stone! YAY!

Thank you Onedrop. I do feel that its a perfect diamond for me, and you can''t improve on perfection! I have to say though, I never thought I would ever feel like I never want to upgrade again!!

Thank you for letting me know how you are getting along with your set too, its very helpful!

I will ask WF to make sure my diamond sits at the height it is now so I can maybe clean just the centre diamond in an US. Do you know what it is that makes the stones dislodge in the US? Is it the vibration?

Maisie, I just wanted to say that I LOVE your legato setting! I sincerely would recommend getting some pretty diamond bands to wear with it and leave it in the current setting so you can wear it daily. It would make more sense to me to get a future diamond ring in a pave setting because it would be a RHR and not worn as often.

Well, Maisie, that may well be an option... but personally, even if I had to do it again, I would still choose the lowest setting possible for my diamond. usually I just don''t love the look of a very high-set stone, with a lot of airspace under the culet. But that''s just me!

Also, I believe it is the small vibrations in the water of the US that can potentially loosen stones. But maybe someone else knows for sure?

Maisie, I''m so glad you have found a diamond you adore and want to wear forever! That is so exciting, having something that delights the eye as so many of us here are fortunate to have is certainly a treat, and moreso when you have found your ''ultimate''!

I have a suggestion, if I may. Since LynnB has said from her experience she would choose a plain solitaire to go with a pave band why not go for the band first and see how you like it with the current setting you have? It sounds like you have different habits (taking it off, being careful, happy to clean by hand rather than US) but wouldn''t it be great if you could wear and clean that beauty without worry? Then if you find you ache for the matching setting, well, you will have no regrets and then you''ll be doubly-triply sure you''re willing to sacrifice lots of finger time for it. Just my thoughts, but I always respect to each their own and I cannot wait to see what you do!!

I know what you mean Lynn, normally I love lower settings too. I would probably worry that I would whack it and chop the head clean off!

Thank you for your advice DS and Onedrop. I will think about what you have said and not rush into a decision
