Hi Largosmom :wavey:

I wonder if I could be so bold and ask if you would mind sharing some of the stats on your lovely amethyst dangles that JKT made for you...also the size of the hoops you have them in, in this thread...and stone size perhaps? I really like the shape and style of your hoops, is it called a 'J' hoop? I'd be getting mine just plain metal though.

I've written DanielM, to see about setting 2 or 3 pairs of stones I have, 2 of them amethyst sets, and have asked him about having a pair of slightly hammered silver hoops also. My stones are 2 round ammy at 6mm - 2 cushion white topaz at 6mm - and 2 cab ammys at 8x6mm...

I kind of thought a hoop size of around 15/17mm across would be ok? I've never owned a pair of hoops in my life, so have no clue as to size!! I've got average ear lobes, nothing untoward at all! You think 15mm or so is big enough for the size stones above? In your thread, the picture of you wearing them looked just perfect in dimensions.

Anyone who might have any more pictures, do chime in please!!

TIA :))

OK, I'll go get the calipers out and check the sizes.

I use more than one pair of earrings with them. I have two sets of brighton hoops in silver, and the oval diamond hoops which I got from my local jeweler...we looked through a catalog looking for a shape that would work well with earring charms. Will see if I can get some pictures for you. I have a few pairs of small brighton beads that I swap onto the silver hoops too. You might have to wait a little while, though...one of my kitties just snuggled down next to me and they never do that...cannot move!

Well, my caliper was at work...but then I remembered that I had the measurements of the earrings on the etsy page where I was working on the design with julia and I took a bunch of photos of the earrings back then. I cannot find the measurements on the amethysts, but I seem to remember that they are around 7 mm. I would think that something in the 5-7 mm range would be a great size for earring charms. You get some extra width from the setting too.

The earrings are about 3/4 of an inch long. My ears are pierced a bit high, so a half inch hoop would be too small for me. If your ears are pierced a bit lower, you could maybe get by with a half-inch hoop. Mine are a long oval. I had the amethysts in hand and then bought the hoops, then had the amethysts made into the charms...so the hoops were purchased so that they could be used for that purpose. I looked for something with a smooth line over the hinge. I wanted the charms to not get caught in front of or behind the hinge. These are tapered and a bit wider at the bottom where the hinge is. The jump rings and charm tops that go around the earrings are between 3mm and 3.5mm. You can see the width of the hinge in the caliper photo. I really like this style of earring as it clicks into the hole and are very secure on me. A round hoop works well too, I'll post a couple more shots of the charms on my silver Brighton hoops. I actually wear them as much on those as on the diamond hoops.

Thank you Largosmom - brilliant info and pictures of your sets of earrings :))

I love your Brighton hoops, but am not sure where I would look to buy them? Do the little extra round charms come with them?

You know, looking at your pictures of those hoops with the charms Julia made for you, it looks like they are so well matched, they look so lovely together. I love how there are 3 pieces hanging on the hoops, but it's not overkill at all.

My ideas for getting a little suite of dangles and hoops is coming together now I have a clearer idea of shapes and sizes - thank you so much for digging out the info for me! Could I ask if you could hunt down a link perhaps, of where I might look for and perhaps buy the Brighton hoops...I would love to see their range.

Reading your thread and seeing your earring pictures, I have to agree with everyone - they really are so lovely - Julia's work is impeccable isn't it, and so much more. I'm hoping to get another little suite of special amethysts I have, set by her, but it wont be until the end of the year, as she is busy and booked up to late summer. But, I'm happy to wait - those stones are are worth it!!

Thank you, Brighton is a chain store that sells jewelry and leather goods, most trimmed with silver. Their name is the same as their website or you can google "brighton jewelry". They don't sell online at least not yet and their website normally doesn't feature their full line--no idea why that is the case.

They are in a mall at a location where I travel often on business, and I've seen a counter at many airport specialty shops as well. There is also an outlet store within 50 miles of me at a large outlet mall.

They sell charms for necklaces and earrings, the beads are all similar in size, there is a smaller set for the earrings and a larger set for necklaces and charm bracelets. I have two pairs of earrings, one longer oval set and the round set you see here, and two sets of their earring charms and one more set of pearl charms that I made by deconstructing a pair of earrings from the mall and adding a jump ring to turn them into charms instead of earrings. The pearls are brown dyed freshwater pearls and I have a matching necklace.

Julia's style meshes well with the Brighton items. I just sent off a larger amethyst from Gary at Finewater to have her make me a matching pendant which I will probably also mix and match with the beads on a necklace in addition to wearing it on its own.

I enjoy mixing things up.

I had a little search and think I found said Brighton website, but it looks like they don't sell online...I'm in the UK, so a non starter really! I'm going to hunt the charm thing though - I'm quite taken with yours.

My avatar amethyst, is the larger of a trio cut by Gary, there's a story attached to it, and it's quite precious to me now! I asked him to cut me a matching pair of trills, which he did - and they match so well. I'm really hoping to send the set to Julia, for her to weave her magic on them :))

Thanks Laura for all the information - I really appreciate it...the never ending hunt for the unusual continues!

I think you could replicate the earring hoops but you'll have to hunt for some at local shops or jewelers. A "U", "V" or "O" shaped hoop would work, and you just have to be able to get the beads over the pointy part of the hoop. Perhaps Julia can make something for you that would allow you to change them out...not sure if she can do one with hinges, but it never hurts to ask, perhaps a post-hoop that goes up around the back of the ear and still prevents the charms (or beads) from falling off? This type of charm has become more popular, so perhaps you will find something appropriate. Pandora is a popular bead company that I have seen at other jewelry stores, though it is a pricey brand for what you get, and there are probably more. Once you find a pair of hoops that you like, then the fun is in making charms to put on them. My next set will be a pair of small kyanite ovals that is waiting for funds to get done.
