So I'm kinda in a hurry to buy a diamond in order to have it set in time to ask a certain lady a certain question on a certain day...

The problem is I live outside the US, and local diamond prices are a joke, literally 50%-80% higher even at online dealers. So have been strongly considering buying one unsighted online from the US.

I've crammed as much diamond knowledge into my head as possible, and know there's no substitute for seeing the stone. However some of the more reputable online dealers offer lots of information - in particular ASET and Idealscope images. Just how confident can I be of this stone? It seems to have good idealscope and ASET images (below), but only an Ex/VG/VG/VG and 2.0 on the HCA. It's also an H about 1.3 carats (7mm x 7mm) so very good cut is important to mask the color, it's eye-clean. For those that think they add anything further its AGS cut/light return grade is 000 and 0, the dimensions are:

Depth 60.9, Table 56.9, Crown Angle 33.9 Pavillion angle 41.1, pointed cutlet, thin to medium girdle.

Sorry to rush you all, but your opinions are greatly valued...

It is terrific! Most of us here buy stones without seeing them all the time! When you have good images, you don't need to physically see them! Do you have a picture of the diamond itself?

And FYI, you never use the HCA on AGS Ideal cut stones as AGS has graded the light perfomance. The HCA is to use for stones that do not have AGS grading because GIA Excellent is a much broader range than AGS Ideal cut.

Here's the picture, it's not the best picture - not true diffuse lighting. I guess I'm just a bit risk averse and have managed to talk myself out of lots of diamonds I've considered, this one just keeps coming back to me, seems to have good spread too. Now I'm trying to tell myself H isn't white enough, even though I know in face up conditions I won't be able to tell, and that the girl it's headed to won't care!

H is plenty white! It looks beautiful. What setting are you going to put it in?

Looks great!

Yes, it does look great! You could hardly go wrong with that choice!

I'm pretty sure she wants a simple solitaire probably in platinum, she's quite petite too so a smallish ring size (still trying to discretely steal one of her rings to get an approximate measurement!). I like delicate four claw settings that don't sit too high off the finger. I'm getting a very reputable local jeweller to set it and throw some ideas around.

I think it looks perfect, and a clean, simple setting will really show off the stone. Excellent job! BTW, I have an I colour also graded by AGS with a fantastic cut like yours, and the cut really does hide the colour. In daylight it faces up incredibly white. So you'll be fine with an H, since it's graded by a really respectable lab.
