Hi Honey and others,
I''m also in Australia, and just wondered where you decided to get your US cleaner from?? I''ve been wanting to get one for awhile, but haven''t been able to work out where''s a good place to get one from. Also what kind of price range would I be looking at spending? Thanks in advance for your help

I''m not an Aussie and don''t know if ebay items are shipped oversees but all the US for personal use are basically the same: 42,000 hz at 35 watts. Only the price is different. I recommend the following on ebay:

DIGITAL ULTRASONIC CLEANER JEWELRY WATCH DIAMOND DENTAL
Sale price: $17.50
Shipping & Handling: UPS Ground $14.90

Seller: the_shining_image [contact seller]

Seller Information: Huating Li
Slate Hill, NY 10973 United States

Thanks for the info dmus, I will look into it

I don''t know if you have a QVC in Oz (although I know they will ship overseas because I asked them when I was in New Zealand!), but I bought my ultrasonic cleaner through QVC for about £25.

I lurrrrrrve it. :)

I have to say I am very excited - it''s my first ''Calling Honey'' post!! Thankyou

Anyway, I purchased my ultrasonic on ebay on an auction.

I chose this one as it seems to have the same ''specs'' as the Sparkle Spa (the one that lots of PSers) recommended in the US, but I had trouble getting it shipped here etc.

They have a couple of auctions going at any one time (same company/seller), so if you are not desperate, you can hold out for a good price. I paid $70 (including $20 delivery) and I did a quick search and found that most of the auctions ended up at this price, so I think that''s what you will be up for, I wouldn''t pay more than this. I felt this was quite a bargain as the ones I were looking at were $100 US + shipping, so I think I got a good deal (and won my first ever ebay auction first time)

Good luck! You won''t be disappointed with it, I love my one, in fact it''s been a while since I have given my jewellery a little bath, I might go use that little thing now!

Awwwwwwwww! I''m blushing!! I have to find those little emoticons Ellen uses - they are so cute! I could really do with a * taking a bow* one now!

Maybe we could post those little emoticons in the Useful threads archive?!

Were there any plug in issues seeing as it was from OS? Do you need to use an adapter?

Are there any local ones, either on the net or a B&M shop???

TIA, Sharon

Hi

I've been looking at getting an ultrasonic too. I saw a small, battery operated one at Prouds last night, for about $35. I have no idea about its quality. There are a few similar ones on ebay for about the same price. Australian Jewellery Supplies have a couple of small ones, starting at $90 (http://www.ajsonline.com/). They are the plug-in type.

There is another style on ebay, that sells for $60, plus $20 shipping. It doesn't sound too shabby, but I really don't know enough about them to be sure. *edited to add - Just re-read Honey's post about the Sparkle Spa. That's the one that AJS sell for about $90.They have stores in most capital cities.

I found one on www.getprice.com.au which turns out to be $65 with postage. Its one of the cody ones that I see all the time on ebay but know nothing about. Im too scared to buy it incase it breaks and there is no warranty???

I saw this japanese e4lectrical shop in Chadstone and it had a very good looking one for about $130. But I have no idea.

Maybe I will get the Sparkle Spa if it is the best recommended one??? $90 is worth it imo knowing that it would have a waranty from the supplier.

Thank you Cleo, Honey, Kath and Sharon for all the tips! I appreciate it!

So which one is the right one to buy? And are all the cody ones the same?

I bought mine off ebay and it was shipped from an Aussie company, so I didn''t need to use an adapter, it''s ready for use here in Australia.

The seller seems to have an excellent track record, and they have lots of auctions going. I am really happy with mine one though!

If you look at the specs on the unit, this should give you an idea I guess. I just matched mine up with the specs on the Sparkle Spa, as everyone seems to rave about them here. I couldn't find one in Australia though

I wouldn't use a battery operated one just cause I hate buying or recharging batteries all the time. I would recommend that you try the one I have, I am very happy with it (I think it may even have a warranty, you would need to check the ebay auction site). Or, if you can find one here the Sparkle Spa. Honestly there is not a lot of technology that goes into one of these things, if it's powerful enough then you shouldn't have any problems with one being better than the other. I think it comes down to the power and the hertz (?) I can't remember what the exact specs where but hopefully you get my drift.

I also wouldn't pay more that $70 tops including delivery. I have seen lots of units sold on ebay auctions (the one I have usually has at least one auction going all the time), and they rarely go above this point, they even sometimes sell for $10 or so lower. You just have to be patient (or lucky!).

ETA - It's your statutory right in Australia to get a full refund if the product is faulty or doesn't do what it was advertised to do etc. This is an Aussie company and is covered by this law, and if you pay by Paypal, I believe they guarantee the transaction too?

Last night I purchased the Smart Shop one for $65 including postage. It seems that the company that makes the Cody ones also make the Sparkle Spa, so they should be much of a much!!! Will get back to everyone when I get it!!!! Also, the ebay traders mentioned above are not currently selling any u.s. cleaners so I couldnt try them.

That''s great news Sharon, you should be very happy with your new little toy!

Hi Sharon, that''s great you''ve got one, I''d love to hear how you find the machine when you get it

Hi bling addict,

IGIStore is selling Sparkle Spa for $49.99 (US). Not sure if it is the same sparkle spa that a lot of PSers are using and if it ships to Australia.

However, there is no harm contacting IGI.

Here is the link:

Hope it helps.

Thanks Belgian Mussels, I just had a look, and it looks like they won''t ship to Australia (they won''t even ship to Hawaii and Alaska), but thanks for taking the time to post. Honey and others have given me lots of great tips, so I''m sure I''ll be able to find something good when I''m ready to buy

Hi bling addict,

IGI USA does ship the US cleaner to Australia.

Here is their reply:

Hi~
Yes we do ship to Australia. Please let me know which jewelry cleaning cloth that you are interested in by looking at our website and choosing a number and I know which ultra sonic cleaner you are talking about. As soon as you get back to me with this information I will let you know how much the shipping will be. Thank you~Heather

Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I had to add a comment.

I bought an ultrasonic off ebay recently (seller Aussiesuperstore). The brand says ''Tiffany'', but it''s exactly the same as the Cody, even the product code is the same (CD-2800). It came with a 12 month warranty, so I felt comfortable purchasing it.

It has made a real difference to my ring. Even my partner noticed it, so it''s not just me :) Although I clean my ring often, the US does a much better job. I noticed that after I run my ring through it, there are more rainbow coloured sparkles, not just the white ones (if that makes sense).

I put my partner''s gold chain in, and you could actually see the grime coming off it. (Not to say that he''s dirty, but when you wear a chain 24/7 it does get stuff caught between the links.) I just use warm water and a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid.

I paid $65 including P & H. I would strongly encourage everyone to spend the money on an ultrasonic. It makes such a difference to the performance of your diamonds. There''s more sparkle, fire and life. And isn''t that why we invested time and effort (not to mention dollars) to buy a quality stone?

Ditto! I have just got some cr**ted diamond studs (shhhhh, I know we can''t say the word!

) and after a week of normal wear I noticed they didn''t look as sparkly as when I first got them. A quick wizz in the ultra and I couldn''t believe it! I even wear them in the shower etc so they have come into contact with warm water etc, but the US really makes a difference. A fabulous little machine!!!! Next time I clean them, I plan to only clean one and compare them - I am sure I will be amazed at the difference.
