im just gonna do a regular boring one with some flwoers around the side i think, my friend pretty much just ripped my ideas apart so not in much of a designin mood anymore
Aw, Smurf- I'm sorry I have been slow to respond. Today has been a really wild day for me. I was just going to write that I really LOVE your ideas! I think they are so creative and they would definitely stand out! I'm so sorry someone ripped you apart. If it's any consolation, I had friends rip my work apart NON-STOP in school (and out of it too). I assume you are still a student or at least spend most of your time with people who are in school or who have just gotten out? That is my situation as well. Graduated a year ago. All I can remember about school is that the teachers ALL wanted something different.. a different style. The best grades mostly didn't go to the people who had the "best work" but to the people who had pinpointed the style that that specific teacher was looking for. I had so many art/design teachers who contradicted each other when it came to design. I also remember when it came to peers and students, people were ALWAYS ripping apart each others work. It was like there were wayyyy too many chiefs and not enough indians. None of the indians really had all that much backing. I have this theory that artists by default are kind of hard to be around most of the time. We use our brains in a different way than most, and sometimes it comes off as arrogance. At least, that's the best way that I can describe it. I do believe that the world is a little harder for some artists to handle because we all see things in such a different way. Plus we are taught to analyze work over and over and over again to the point of madness, because the best design is tweaked right to the very smallest detail.
But I digress.. I was actually really impressed with your work. It's a hell of a lot better than a lot of the resumes I've ever seen. I could give you some creative pointers as far as space issues and stuff, but that's only if you want it. I just don't think you should ever let anyone bring you down. Only get creative advice from people who are giving you CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, and NOT people who are bashing your ideas. People are going to cut you down your whole life... ESPECIALLY when you get into the professional world. The one thing you have to learn is to grow a thick skin. If you get a design job working for clients, they are by default going to want to critique and edit your work over and over again until it's basically what they want it to look like. They just need someone around who knows the techniques and programs well enough to give them what they're looking for.
Sigh.. can you tell you've hit on one of my pet-peeves? Can you tell I've had people try to cut me down also? Did I let it stop me? No. Absolutely Not. But for the record, your ideas are great and I'm so sorry someone treated you that way.
Thank you so much for all of that jess, it really boosted me back up this morning. I graduated college in 07 so I''ve been out about 2 and a half years now but it still takes me time to develop solid ideas, certainly more than an afternoon. The friend who was looking at the resumes I made went to the same school so I guess I''m not surprised she suggested the black and white type resume to me. She is also still living in a small town and as far as I know hasn''t actually had any graphic design jobs at all
It''s the same friend as well who I was talking about on my other thread who only likes to talk about herself...I really should just remove her from my life.
Yeah, after school I ended quite a bit of friendships. I know that sounds terrible but one day I just woke up and realized I had a lot of negative people in my life. My post-school life is a lot more stress and drama free. I do what makes me feel good (especially when it comes to design and art). I think you should go with the resume you are most proud to present, the one that best represents you and your personality, even if it takes some tweaking and refining, and do your best to ignore the people who bring you down. Shake off the haters.. hehe.
Boy, I am just full of advice, aren''t I?
