Hi! *waves* based on your experience at Diamond Zone and based on these pics.. In your opinion, do you feel DZ can do this and the quality be good enough for an everyday wearing E ring? Original jeweler quoted me $ 2500 for the semi mount. DZ said they could do it for $825. I do not currently have $2500 to spend, but love THIS ring.. BUT I don't want to waste several hundred dollars, if the quality isn't going to last. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Thank you very much!! Very nice of you

Hi Antique Lover, Enerchi here! :wavey:

I would call and discuss in great and specific detail EXACTLY what it is that you like/don't like about your pictured ring, talk over specifics and he can provide you with a CAD to refine from there.

I have found him exceptionally service oriented each of the times I visited his shop (which sounds like I'm in downtown Chicago on a weekly basis!! no - I've visited only twice!) but I have been in his store 4 times in total and tried on everything that sparkled (!!) as well as having multiple email conversations with him regarding various projects. Everything that I have purchased has been perfect to my standards and if there is anything that needs a tweak, Ilya is more than happy to fine tune to make it perfect for you. My purchases have been RHRs not an e-ring, so in that case, I'd want to have a good chat w lots of examples of what you are looking for and then be in close contact thru the process.

I would have NO DOUBTS at all, that he could do it for you - but just do your groundwork ahead of time. I know he does have a bench that specializes in custom work and the settings we have seen at the GTG's were well done. I was impressed with his milgraining on the OMC 3 stone that I have - its held up very well and that ring gets a lot of regular wear. Dee*Jay linked the threads of our GTGs and there are a ton of ollo clip pics focusing on the sort of workmanship they can deliver.

I hope that helps...!

OP, please please report back in SMTB when your ring is done! I am considering the same setting (Jacob B In LA, right?) BUT if DZ could do it for less than half the price, woot woot!

YES! That is the EXACT ring. I found a pic of their ring on Google and it took me to an Ebay link. There were 2 of these rings listed, with center stones and we're 6k+ and 13k+. So I contacted them with my stone dimensions, and I was quoted $2500. I contacted DZ and was quoted $825 based off the CAD pics I copied from the original ebay listing. At 1st, I was stoked that I could get that ring in my budget. . But then doubt started to creep in. Thinking I'd lose quality if I went with DZ. But with all the great feedback I've gotten from here.. I'm going to go ahead and put a deposit down tomorrow to start the CAD work!!!! I'm going to do the 2 raised stones at the N, S, E, W points in sapphires, and get 2 of these stackers with milgrain. To put front n back of the E ring. Do you that'd be too much or look silly? Cuz the ring is low, so the band's wouldn't sit under it but against the top n bottom points of the halo.

I'm sorry to hijack your thread ladies! Enrechi, I've spoken to you a bit about having a custom e-ring setting done by DZ. When working with tiny melee/pave type stines, is there going to be a visible difference between the VS and Si1 /2? I'm not a huge diamond nut to really know. Ilya says he doesn't think it will make a difference. Is it really necessary to upgrade to VS? I'd message you, but don't know how/quote]
I'm going to keep your concerns on the thread where you are talking about your future e-ring.

How large are the melee? in my experience, they are very small - maybe 2mm.. ish...or less??? For me, SI1 is acceptable, maybe it is ok for you, maybe not. I'd suggest you check out samples at a local B&M store where you can get a feel for what you can see with your own eyes. Some people are super sensitive with clarity and others are not. Its a personal opinion. Same with the colour. Some prefer the FG colour, others are absolutely fine w GH... you have to see for yourself.

I would also ask Ilya for a picture of both - VS and SI melee as well as FG and GH, and assess from that, whether it is acceptable or it bothers you.

Personally, I am ok w SI/GH but that's me. I don't want to reassure you that the SI is absolutely eye clean, when you might just look at it and think 'hey! enerchi! are you nuts??" (lol!) so best to ask for sample pics and also try on examples in a store where you can judge in their uber intense halogen lighting (where even a dog diamond could look awesome!) as well as getting a look in natural day light.

Haha you are too funny and very sweet for all of your help! I don't have much jewelry and aren't as into specifics as many here are.. so I'm kinda freaking out about the process lol. I did a bit of research and it's pretty common for pave/melee to be Si1/2. And through pics n videos looked clean n sparkly. So I just asked him to keep it at Si1. The deposite is in and CADs are being started!! I also came across a video of the original ring which was super helpful because it showed the scroll on the side and the underside of the ring. Which pics did not. And I'm swooooooning over here and hoping it looks just as nice lol. But through reading online reviews and seeing all the pics you posted of Ilyas work.. I'm pretty confident he could pull it off. Otherwise I would have gone with the recent quote I got from DK. So.. again.. thank you so much for being so kind to a newbie :-)

WOO HOO! I'm excited to see your cads! Please post so we can enjoy the process along with you :))

I think you'll be very happy - as you can see by pics on other threads, the bench does very nice work and his prices are very good! And in my experience, he will do what ever it takes to make it right, plus there's a warranty for after service care.

Happy to share my opinions and experiences with you, AntiqueLover! Looking forward to seeing your new e-ring!

I think that you're putting the cart before the horse here - I would focus on the e-ring before thinking about bands. For what it's worth, I would think that two bands (with sapphires) would be too much. I'd wait until the ring was completed, in hand, and then I would go try on different styles because you have no way of knowing which styles and/or colors are going to work with your new e-ring.
Congrats on your e-ring decision - can't wait to see the finished project!!!

oh im so excited for u! what a lovely setting. cant wait to see the cad!

I love love LOVE this setting, and I'm interested to see how well DZ makes it and if you are satisfied. I wouldn't mind having it for a CS... :naughty: ;))

What's s CS? Colored Stone?

And yes, I'm waiting on bands etc as j don't even know what I'm going to have room for etc. Was just tossing ideas around :-)

I posted in its own thread.. but here's the 1st set of CADs . Ilya still needs to add the scroll work and we're going to see how a small peekaboo stone added, looks in place of a hole in the setting. So once it's been added, I'll decide if I want it or not.

I think you have to contact the moderator to do it by hitting "report concern."

And here's my stone

2nd rendering is in! The milgrain was put in, the side scroll, and a peekaboo stone.

This is so awesome, I actually have been hit with the bug to completely change the look of my ring (its currently a chunky cushion in a HW style halo) and for the price DZ quoted you, would love to reset my ring into something like this in rose gold...anxiously awaiting your final product!! and WOW what a good deal on a custom setting!!! :appl:

Can't wait to see the finished ring. Looks like it is going to be fabulous.

Here are the photo realistic CADs. I thought something was off but couldn't pin point it. Thought maybe it was just the color stones breaking up the flow. . But fellow PSers figured it out. And I emailed Ilya. Hopefully it can be corrected, since I already approved it.

And here's what happened.. the curve between the bezel stones is dead center in my rendering. And in the original it's off centered. So my rendering is more square cushion shape and the original is more rectangular cusion shape.
