Hi Diamond seeker - I've done a diagram of the spacing on my BGD custom necklace, and since you are experienced with these things, I was wondering if you would have a quick look and let me know if it looks OK to you? There are going to be five diamonds, and my neck size is medium. It's a 16-inch chain, and I have asked for the diamonds to start from 4 inches from each side of the clasp, spaced at 2-inch intervals. What do you think?

You are just like me because I have drawn out the exact same kind of maps trying to figure out my own!!! Let me go see how that would fall on me and I will get back with you. I think it looks good. The only thing you'll have to contend with is the chain moving and not staying centered all the time.

DS when BGD made mine they suggested I evenly space them around the whole chain to avoid this happening. I'm so glad I did listen to them because I wear my DBTY all the time and it is constantly turn around on me.

Smith I would suggest not doing the 4 inch gap and just stick with evenly spaced diamonds around the whole necklace.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Well, I personally would do as Sarah suggested because I do think it will spin. All my pendants clasps eventually move around to the front. That is why I am going to probably do 9 stones on mine.

I think your spacing will work but you will see the gap when the necklace moves around. That said, I wouldn't evenly space just 5 stones. I think 7 would be the minimum.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Great plan, Smith!

My necklaces all spin as well, and even tho in another thread I also suggested a gap at the back (why put a diamond there if its covered by hair, right? ) but that's a good point DS & sarahbear make - probably better to evenly space them out. Are you going w 5 stones or 7? or are the 5 stones, 7 pointers?
(I can get lost in a paper bag...FYI!)

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Thanks, everyone!

So, the diamonds are going to be 0.10. That's because I have 0.07 in a DeBeers necklace and also 0.07 in a Tiffany DBTY bracelet, and I wanted these stones to be bigger. 0.07 really is very small. So the five diamonds of 0.10 each is costing $1450 and I don't want to spend any more than that on this item.

I know the two diamonds at the back just wouldn't be seen, as I have long hair which falls forward a lot, and I am always having to adjust my solitaire necklaces and my DeBeers three-stone. So I'm fine with adjusting, I do it almost automatically, and I feel paying more to have two diamonds which are going to be mostly hidden is a false economy, for me. So that's why I spaced them as I did on the diagram - agree with Diamondseeker not to space 5 stones evenly. If I had 7 x0.10 that would probably make the necklace close to $2,000 which is out of my budget, and I really, really want the 0.10 stones as opposed to the 0.07.

So given that it's 5 x 0.10, I think the spacing in my diagram looks OK, no?

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

I think your spacing looks perfect, given your explanation above.

It will be beautiful when it comes - I'm excited for you!!! (and just a wee bit jealous... should truth be told! )

Thanks Diamondseeker - interesting thread!

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Thanks Enerchi! I just love rose gold, and it's really, really hard to come by. It's just doesn't seem to come in a whole variety of designs. Apparently, it's just really hard to work with. Tiffany does it, but their rose gold isn't really pink at all, it's yellow with a hint of blush because it's 18k. Blue Nile's 14k, very pink rose gold range is shrinking fast, and WF doesn't work with rose gold at all. Brian Gavin is the rose gold provider that's easiest to find and well-known, and precious metal prices aren't going down anytime soon, so I thought I'd grab the rose gold now!

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

I'd probably check with ID Jewelry just to see if they work in rose gold. You might could get 11 ten-pointers for the price of 5. Let us know if you do because it would be good to know who all will do rose gold.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Good idea, DS, but the necklace is already in production at BGD. Also, I really wanted BGD's melee, because I've heard such good things about it here. If ID offers so much more for so much less money, wouldn't the diamonds be inferior to BGD's melee?

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

DS - I just looked at the ID website. They don't do rose gold. Also, maybe they just have bad pictures, but their DBTY doesn't look as finely-wrought as BGD's. The bezels don't look as nice. I don't know, BGD has such a good rep round here that I am most comfortable with them, for the rose gold. They do seem to have conquered rose gold where others have failed! They offer many designs in rose, whereas that isn't true of most other vendors.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Bliss showed pictures of her custom made DBY and it looked fine to me. The one on the site might be ready made and not custom or it might not even be the actual necklace because those don't appear to be 10 points. You'll have to read Bliss' comments carefully because she compares two companies and shows both necklaces, one which would be equal to BG. But it doesn't matter anyway since yours is already being made. So you called ID Jewelry and they said they do not work in rose gold for custom?

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Just wanted to say I appreciate the fine quality of BG and I know your necklace will be beautiful. I only mentioned IDJ because Bliss seemed to like hers just as well as her custom one from WF, and WF and BG basically have the same custom necklace.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Hi - no, I didn't call, no point as my necklace is already being made at BGD - on the IDJ website it says the necklace is available is 14 white and yellow, same in 18k, and platinum.

Yes, Bliss' necklace looks very nice, but surely Brian's melee will be better quality stones, in terms of cut? IDJ offers well over a carat for $1,195 non-custom, and BGD/WF offer half a carat for the same money, non-custom. I mean, when a deal seems too good to be true...they say it usually is...you know?

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

I just had another look at the IDJ DBTY in the thread you posted, Diamondseeker, and it does look very nice. I wonder why the huge price difference between WF, BGD, and IDJ?

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

Well, the hard part for me is that I have never seen anything in person from IDJ whereas I have for both WF and BG. I am picky and want great quality and I know both WF and BG have it. BUT, when someone like Bliss has one of the nicest jewelry collections of anyone here gets many of her things from IDJ, it does make me pause and think. Any jeweler can get top quality melee that will show arrows, so I think in 10 pointers you could get diamonds equal in appearance/quality (and I would upgrade to VS instead of their standard SI). But it is hard to know about the quality of the custom work without seeing some, but again, Bliss has very fine pieces and I doubt she'd settle for less than fine quality. So that is what makes me wonder. But I really didn't realize you had already started your project or else I probably wouldn't have mentioned it. And I am not sure whether they would do rose gold, either. I was just thinking they might.

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

I have also heard good things about IDJ on here, mainly for e-rings, of course, since those get the most traffic here. Yes, Bliss has a truly wonderful collection, doesn't she! Maybe I'll think about IDJ for future work. Just that Brian seems the most experienced here in producing rose gold DBTY...WF doesn't work in RG at all!

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

So, DS, did I read that you are also planning a DBTY necklace? With 9 stones? When?? And.....who will you pick to make it???

There is a thread in SMTB at the moment, called "Show Me Your DBTY Necklaces". It might help you choose. There's a rose gold BGD that I was very interested to see!

Re: Calling Diamondseeker re. spacing of diamonds on BGD DBT

I imagine they have to buy a certain minimum amount of the rose gold and it may just not be worth it for them to invest in it when they don't have high demand for it. But like you said, Brian is selling other items in rose gold, so they are using it on a regular basis. I don't know how it would look on me, but my daughter's baby has reddish hair and I really want to get a few things in rose gold to give her in the future because I think it would be beautiful on her!

Just saw your next post! I have a DBY on my wishlist so that is why I plan it in advance  , but I just got diamond huggies from WF so I have to wait awhile before getting anything else! I was planning on using WhiteFlash because Bliss and sna both were so pleased with their necklaces from there, and mine was going to be close to the same as theirs. But I haven't priced them anywhere.
