Someone I know (not a friend, just s.o. I know casually) is offering this watch to me for USD8k (she might even go down to USD7k). She's in a bit of bind and needs the money.

I'd love to have another watch (and black is truly my colour - since my wardrobe is 90% black) but had never thought of buying a Chanel watch, until now.

Would appreciate your advice, DF.

Phoenix...if you like the watch buy it, but keep in mind that these pre-owned designer brand watches (unlike a Patek Philippe) are worth less than 50% of retail.

Phoenix, i have never owned a ceramic watch but from what i hear they are hard to scratch, but if you drop it on the floor it can shatter like glass. ... :o... plus most of these designer brand watches are cased with an inexpensive movement inside.

HI:

I am not DF, but here is my take on this watch: since Chanel makes clothing and acccessories, this watch is basically the latter and an expensive one at that. They are not know for their fine watch movements but since you already have one (Patek)---you know that!

Sorry for your friend, but save your bucks :saint:

cheers--Sharon

and buy her 12 ct bracelet instead... :wink2:

She's asking too much. And I just suggested buying it in your other thread. Oops!

I'm usually more of a lurker but the white Chanel J12 with diamonds on the bezel is my dream watch. Retail is close to the model that you're thinking about buying. I bought mine second hand for much less from a pawn shop. I think she's asking too much. Fwiw, mine came with everything including the shopping bag that the owner purchased the watch in plus the receipts. If you do decide to buy the watch, make sure you take it to an independent watch appraiser because there are many fakes made.

I agree with what has been said. Chanel is not a known watch maker. You are essentially spending lots of $$$ to buy a sub-par watch with a Chanel logo on it. Perhaps save the money and invest in a timeless (black :P ) watch? Do you think you'll be wearing a ceramic watch five years from now?

I think the resale value will be poor. Secondhand watches are purchased and collected by men, and they're not in the market for Chanel. Women who want it are fashionistas and won't want a past season.

You're better off with a classic Cartier tank, purchased secondhand.

Just wanted to chime in - I have that watch in black and white minus the diamonds and love them both....I've had them for 2-3 years and haven't had any issues with them, get compliments all the time, and can match them with a lot of stuff. Buttttt I'm also not planning on selling them ever. That being said, she is asking too much for it.

Thank you, DF and everyone else, for posting and advising me. I've decided not to purchase the watch. I think if I was looking for a "fun" watch, I'd get the one without the diamonds and not have to pay through the nose for it.
