Calling all the tattooed PS'ers!

Q for tattoo'd PSers who've had babies, esp women w/ hip tattoos - did you find that your tattoos went back to their original configuration and colour saturation after delivery? What happens w/ stretch marks?

I don't have any in the hip area, but even if you bounced back perfectly it would be highly unlikely that the tattoo would look exactly how it did before pregnancy. Skin stretches and bounces back, but ink is not really meant to do that. It might get close to it's original shape but the ink will have "thinned" and it will look faded. A touch up will be in order! I am pretty sure you can fix it unless your skin (like mine, grrr) stays a little more, er, floppy?

Thanks MP One of many things you don't consider when you go get tattoo'd at 19! I have two, one on my hip and one right below it, I suppose I'll just have to hope they're mostly intact a few years from now! There's an empty space between them that I don't like, I'll wait to have that filled in too..

I think these are going to be really small and crappy quality but it's all I can find. I have one that I think is pretty good but the scanner hasn't been working.

This one goes all the way around my bicep. I've been thinking of adding something to it, but haven't decided yet.

JD has my name on the inside of his wrist. That's pretty much the only picture I have of any of his. Hopefully will be having my cousin work on his back piece this winter.

Like you Ame, I've been shocked at how much love my back piece gets from older folks. I have had lots of elderly women (like late 70s and on up) just love it, which is so neat.

I finally got my left leg finished a few weeks ago. 7 large poppies swirling up my leg from the top of my foot, up to my knee. After some agonizing, I decided on just black and grey, instead of the planned color- and I really love the way they turned out! I'll try to take some pics later but it's pretty hard to get some angles, especially the largest poppy that is on the back of my calf.

I think the hardest part would be keeping it dry. You are supposed to keep tattoos relatively dry during the healing process and avoid direct sprays with water so that the pressue doesn't bloow off the scab and lead to scarring. Yeah, generally with hand and foot tattoos you have to be careful during the healing process. Some tattoo artists will even refuse to tattoo the hands or feet of someone who doesn't have previous tattoo experience.

Hip tattoos and babies don't mix. My cousin had a star and moon and something else tattooed on her hip and during her pregnancy it looked like the whole freakin solar system. After, it just looked like an unidentifiable blob. My own tattoo in that general region didn't fair so well either. I had a c-section and the dr made sure not to cut through it, he slid the incision over an inch or so to not hit it. During my pregnancy, it got a little bigger but not much since it was mostly below the belly. After I went back to my original shape, it didn't . It kinda looks like it got punched or something. Luckily, neither DH nor I mind. But, I wouldn't suggest those areas to any woman wanting to have babies!

I have one on my lower back - a knotwork pentacle. It's completely impossible to take a photo of! I got it when I was 19, and recently I've been wanting to alter it, possibly with some kind of a stylized lotus, but I've yet to find either an NY artist whose work I love, or to come up with a design myself. Brainstorming is called for!

Y'all have awesome tats - LGK, I adore that Lalique piece, and your tattoo is a gorgeous interpretation. The colors are so bright, it looks luminous!

The first one I got my first year in college - so at 18. I was going for my marine science degree (which I did get).

Second one got when my grandfather died, he used to make wooden and fiberglass butterflies that he gave to friends and sold - I still see them on houses all over NJ. We also added the triquetra knot which is kinda a symbol of my DH and I.

I keep tons of lotion on my hands - i hate the feeling of dry hands!!! That's the only after car I actually give it. After such a long time, the colors still look vibrant - in 2 years or so, I'll need to get it re-touched, but the gal who did it is no longer in business... It's going to be nerve wrecking trying to find another talented person to surrender my hand to...
