I have apprx 175 invites, and my mom mentioned only having family and a few others (probably around 100 of the invites) done by the calligrapher, and then doing the rest either by hand or printed(ink-jet) calligraphy.
I found a great deal at $1.50 for both inner and outer envelopes, so cost really isn''t the issue, but we''re talking about saving around $150-200. The people we would be leaving out would more than likely be college friends, not in the wedding.

Has anyone ever heard of not having all of your invitations done with hand calligraphy? What are your thoughts?

I think it''s a good idea to save a few bucks.

I can''t imagine that the guests would compare envelopes, so if it''s not a priority for you to have all the invites done in hand calligraphy this sounds like a good compromise to me.

I agree, why not save the cash?

And that IS a great deal! May I ask where you got it? I''ve been looking around myself!

I dont see anything wrong with that. A) people wont compare envelopes and B) College friend would probably not even care much for caligraphy to notice. Save the money!

Thanks ladies!! It was something that my mom mentioned in passing, and just wanted to get some opinions on.

leeNY- Thanks!! I found her on craigslist. I know you aren't anywhere close to me, but I would imagine that you could send them to her and then just pay for shipping. I highly recommend craiglist for ANYTHING artsy like this, that can be done local. There are people out there with talents and are willing to charge much lower than any wedding related company. A friend of mine used her invite company to have her calligraphy printed via ink-jet, and paid the same thing I am, for a girl to feed envelopes thru a machine.
Where are you located exactly? I could do some looking around in your area?

Thank you kama

I''d definitely save the cash. If my uncle wasn''t a calligrapher, I would definitely be doing it that way.
