I accidently won an eBay auction - I set my auction sniper on the wrong thing. I wanted some help on evaluating this stone (know it is hard with just photos). I want honest opinions so give them to me.

According to the auction:
1. 6.5 mm and around 1ct Old Mine Cut <= this appears as a trasntitional cut to me but would want opinions
2. Graded as K in color and VS1 in clarity but no certification <= looks warmer to me
2. Chipped sapphire baugettes (4mm x 1.5 mm) <= don't care as I won't be keeping setting and these aren't worth much
3. Ring is 18K gold and weights 8.2 g <= I should be able to get some good money back even as scrap gold

Consideration: I wanted an OEC that was around 7.5 mm, G-I color and very clean.

Yikes, that is a killer to have one an auction you didn't intend to bid on! Doesn't look like an OEC to me and certainly not an OMB, but maybe a transitional? Can you see the checkerboard pattern? I just got a little ring with a transitional and it looks like this one probably is, too. What will you do with it???

I am pretty sure this is transitional or just a poorly cut RB :P

So ... what do you think? Nice or not nice?

I was watching this ring too.

I hope it lives up to its billing and that you enjoy it, even if you didn't intend to purchase it. Let us know what you find when you pull it from the mounting!

Definitely transitional. I think you need to see it out of that setting.

Yep, it's definitely no OEC. I like it though.

So ... nice enough to take a look in person?

I looks like even a late transitional to me ... almost like a poorly cut RB???

That's your stress talking. Just wait and see it in real life.

I think it's a late transitional. Personally I don't like it.

Unless it was really a good deal, I'd pass. It's not what you wanted, so why keep it? It's definitely a later transitional (or like you said, a poorly cut RB)....it's smaller than you wanted too. If it were me and there is a return policy, I'd pass.

Oh, yes, if there is a return policy, I wouldn't even have it sent. It isn't even close to what you were wanting.

Upon reflection, I might lean this way too, Charmy. Pictures only tell a little of the story, so if you *want* a stone that size for a good price it is worth seeing. But if you are utterly "meh" about it, it is not even worth the time.

She said this in her first post which is why I said to return:

"Consideration: I wanted an OEC that was around 7.5 mm, G-I color and very clean."

Color and size are just too far off not to mention it isn't an OEC.

I agree DS. The only reason I would say to see it in person is because for the ct. weight she paid a very good price, even by ebay standards, and since photos are so misleading, *if* she had the money and liked a deal, it could be worth seeing and deciding then. It all sort of depends on how single minded she wants to be in her shopping, and whether she would like another 1ct diamond for a very low price! (assuming it is pleasing to the eye!)

Yes, that is certainly true if she can think of another project to use it for!

If there's a return policy, take a look at it IRL. If not, I'd pass.

Looks like a transitional cut to me - small table and high crown, more facets than an oec. Looks pretty to me - kind of has that flowery look still like the older cuts. :)) But if it's not really what you are looking for, return it!

The stone may be very nice! I'd be tempted to have it sent and look at it in person.

If you scrap the setting, please have the little sapphires on the side measured. There are some of us who have lost a sapphire out of a watch setting and need to replace it for a much reasonable price than the $150 that the jeweler is asking.

This is a really old post. I decided not to go through with the transaction. It was listed again with reduced specs and was sold at less than half the price I paid for. Don't miss the diamond which means I didn't reallt like it.

Not to mention that you would have "overpaid" by about $1000 compared to what it sold for the second time!
