CAD images for my David Klass Ring

On the basket, you should certainly do what makes you happy; however, there is an entirely different feel to the ring with a basket like you showed us and the one on @twang07's inspiration piece. IMO, the style from the inspiration piece "fits" with the style of the overall ring much, much better than the one you posted. While it may work, it doesn't necessarily flow, if that makes sense. At least in my opinion.

This isn't to say the basket shown in the inspiration piece is the correct answer for you, but hopefully you can see how they create a different feel. The inspiration basket helps create a vintage feel, whereas the one you posted has a more modern feel.

@twang07 Thanks! That's really where Caysie excels. She makes the gallery complementary to the rest of the design.

Yes, as I was studying it today, I noticed that too. It's really elegant.:kiss2: In some angles you can see how the kite shoulder perfectly overlaps with the basket design (where it joins) and just creates this beautiful fluid look. This is something that I love the most about this ring and why I chose CvB to make this ring (I couldn't envision anything to change!). All of her slight design elements make me feel like I'm at Disneyland looking at this ring. At Disney, I find myself noticing new elements of design that are so small but are really well thought out.

Thank you @sledge, you communicated what I was thinking much better than I could myself!

Sorry for the slight tangent. Since I discovered my CADs I took the liberty of photoshopping in your basket @Maisie. I think this is pretty easy to imagine from this angle, but I am bad at thinking about what would it look like from the side? Also, I remember that you thought my basket would make it hard to clean the stone. This will be way harder than mine unless the bottom was completely open, so make sure you get that opening!

Hmm, maybe another trick is to have the sides simply be the kite.... I squished this one in a little bit more so that the basket design completely fits under the kite.. It does become a bit more distorted this way, so keep that in mind! MaisieBasket2.jpg

I need a big enough gap underneath the basket to be able to clean the diamond @twang07 so I don’t think the gallery being more closed in will matter as much.

I’m feeling really confused over this design. I love the separate elements I’ve chosen but it seems they won’t work together.

Can you do us a favor? Can you post again the elements you love and circle each one? I'm a bit confused on what features you do and do not like...especially relative to the shoulder. But, there is always a way to find a solution IMHO...

Jumping the gun a bit, but I found this in my pinterest and don't want to forget to post it. The execution and finishing could be improved, but this is a variation on the kit shoulder that might blend a few of your thoughts.

This is my question on the gallery. As you have the gallery detail drawn, it would look something like this. Several of the other inspirations have the entire bottom of the stone in a cupped basket. Which do you prefer?

I like the way DK has changed the shoulders. I think it will have some sort of milgrain to make it stand out a bit. They won't have a recess in them. They look like they are flat. I don't love the gallery. It isn't what I asked for. I think I just need to find a gallery that I like and then the ring will be ready for casting.

@Maisie I don’t particularly like to suggest this at this point in your process, but I feel it would be negligent to not at least bring it up...

Would you consider taking this project to Caysie?

It sounds like you don’t have a very clear idea of what you want - and, as we all know very well, taking several independent inspiration details and gluing them together rarely yields a fluid, aesthetically-inviting piece. Your comment about “finding a gallery” concerns me a bit. I really think that a designer - especially someone like Caysie, who made both your base inspiration and many of the other rings you’re drawing ideas from, could be invaluable in both helping define what you’re looking for and bringing it to life. At the end of the day PS consumers, well-meaning as we are, are not benchmen, and DK is not a designer, and a visually-pleasing piece of jewellery is more than “the sum of its parts executed well”.

Hope the suggestion isn’t out of line! :wavey:

Not out of line at all! I welcome all opinions upload_2018-9-2_21-30-3.gif

I don’t want to change to another vendor mid project for a few reasons. One being that I like working with DK and I know in the end I will get a beautiful ring. I also don’t have the budget for a Caysie ring even if I wanted to change. I’ve actually had messages advising me against working with her. I don’t want to go into that here though. I would like to keep this thread on track.

Finding a gallery doesn’t concern me. I will keep looking and I know I will find something I love. I’m not in a hurry to complete this project even thought my anniversary is in 2 weeks. I would rather get it right than rush it.

It sounds like you want to stick with DK, and that you are ok taking your time, which I think is really important. I think knowing who you want to work with, and that you work well with him/her is a huge part of the process. And rushing only leads to bad outcomes (most of the time), so it's good that you are taking the time to find the "right" pieces that will come together for your ring!

EDIT. I think @yssie made an important comment, because if you weren't sure about DK or felt like you wanted to work with CvB, it would make sense to change before things went further. But if you're willing to take time and communicate openly with DK, I think it will turn out beautiful :)

02F9E210-DE60-4701-9D04-6CCB7DD45607.jpeg I’ve been looking at Lang’s for inspiration. I saw this and while it’s nothing like my earlier ideas I think it’s beautiful. My whole reason for resetting my diamond was because I wanted a smaller setting. Something simpler which takes up less room on my finger. This one is like a smaller version of my platinum setting and I think that’s part of the appeal.

At the risk of people losing patience with me I am considering starting again. I might take some time out to think this over and be sure i get what I want.

I’m truly grateful for all the help and advice I’ve received. This community is awesome.

I think most of us have done several resets, or changed our minds multiple times. No one is going to be annoyed you want to take your time to do this right and get exactly what you want.

@Maisie that ring is also stunning! And knowing your former platinum setting, I can see why you are drawn to this new inspiration piece. I personally prefer more solid/substantial settings myself so I get it. And no one will judge you for making absolute sure you get what YOU want; it's your ring, afterall, so that's how it should be.

Have you thought about test-driving an inexpensive/sim antique ring in a thinner/daintier style to see how you like it before deciding?

@Maisie I love that ring too. I wholeheartedly agree that you should make the ring what you want!
