Calling all the keen eyes of pricescopers here, because I have 0 eye when it comes to assessing CADS.

Finally getting around to getting my 2.5ct blue sapphire and under 1ctw OECs set. I chose DanielM for this project because I believe this is a “fairly simple” setting (No milgrain, engraving, meelee, etc.) and the cost is very reasonable.

This will be set in plated 18K WG. I’ve agonized between plated and unplated WG for weeks, but I’m afraid it will be too yellow and any kind of yellow gold makes my complexion look muddy. I figured white metal is the safest bet.

The sapphire will have 8 claw prongs and the OECs will have 6 claw prongs each.

wow that looks super pretty! I can't wait to see. I have nothing to say about the CAD really. How big is each diamond?

I think it looks really lovely! I’m not the best with CADs, but to me the side stones are tilted nicely, the proportions look nice too.

I’m curious, if you don’t like yellowy metal, why not get platinum? It’s slightly pricier, but shouldn’t be much given the price of gold!

Yeah- get plat quoted out as an option, or have you considered the never needs plating nickel free white gold? Have you seen or felt it in person tho?

I know everyone’s different, I don’t get plating nor want to be bothered by needing/getting it redone occasionally.

I have a platinum old cut N/M 5 stone and it looks a little too “cold” for me. I personally like the patina that WG develops as you wear it. Luckily I haven’t had to replate any of my pieces yet which are all 14 or 18K WG even my E-ring that I’ve worn almost everyday for over 2 yrs.

He has sent me pictures of the unplated WG pieces that he’s done and they look lovely to me. I’m just worried I won’t like it in person (I’ve never seen one in real life and I know it can be tricky to photograph.) Also, as a reminder, my side stones are M colored, so I thought I wanted to play up their color. I’ve been agonizing over this for weeks.

So far all I can comment on this CAD is that I want the crown to be a little less pointed “V” and soften it out a little bit. Not completely “U” shape though, just a softened out V. Does this illustration look clear enough?

Here are some very bad pics of the stones.

have you checked out any of specifically his cad pics to finished product pic to see what to expect in the end? I think he’s done a few crown settings lately?
I haven’t - but in making a change like that curve, I definitely would investigate that.
Your illustration does make sense.
I’d only add if you do make that change- do you also rounden out the bottom of the crown to go with it or not? No right or wrong- just something to think about what you want.

As for the WG…you can always add plating afterwards and try WG unplated first! Either way, removing or adding rhodium is fairly straightforward.

Alloys have many different colors. I posted this photo recently…nickel white gold tends to be warmer in my experience. I’ve had palladium white gold alloy too, which is warmer than platinum but not as warm as nickel alloys. It’s almost as though nickel leaves a faintly yellow grey, and palladium is faintly brown whereas platinum is very cool toned.

Here’s a picture:

The order is as follows:
18k nickel white gold
Platinum
14k palladium white gold

I believe he’s done one for @glitterata recently. And a 3 stone for @elle_71125 as well?
Good suggestion!
Like so?

looking at earlier versions he’s done of crown settings, they do look similarly crisp like your cad seems to depict.
so with that said, and you wish to soften them a bit

top is original
Middle is softened at top part of swoop
Bottom is softened whole part of “V” swoop
(Without moving into “U” territory a la Barbone)
It’s removing the crisp edge that’s there.
These are pretty minute observations - but hey. Why not

Thank you! I do like the bottom one the best!

I think this is gonna be stunning! I have an OEC that is less than 1mm off than your sides, and they have 6 prongs and it looks really nice. can't wait!

 This looks beauteous:love:, it's well proportioned and the taper is really nice. The third rendition of the CAD that @Rfisher did up looks perfect. How hard on shank bottoms are you? I'm really hard on mine so I would bump the bottom to @1.8 if it were me. But that's only because I smash them- I never mean to, it just happens.
See what he mix has for white gold that doesn't need plating and see how that grabs you. It can't hurt.
I can't wait for pictures!

I know this isn’t helpful but god I love the photo of the sapphire east west. I think that would be worth reconsidering.

Is the shank exactly like you want ?

I have short fingers so I try to stick to NS as it helps elongate it. I’m also more drawn to elongated cushions, radiants, ovals, and pears for the same reason.

Do you have any ideas/ suggestions? I never really thought much about the shank but I thought it looks good to me.

I just think the shank looks modern and the prongs are vintage.

Specifically the gap on the side.

I would personally want the donut of the sapphire to be a bit smaller.

A little update. Dan sent pics and it should be ready to be shipped today. Not the best pics, obviously. All in all took a month and 3 weeks. Not too bad at all!

So pretty! I love how you can see the sapphire pavilion in the opening near the donut.
