All,

Any immediate feedback on the CAD design please? This setting is for a 2 carat cushion that I've purchased (around 7.33x7.17mm) and please bear in mind that it will be in platinum rather than the goldy colour in the CAD.

Need to return to him today so see all is fine. Any small changes to it that you suggest or things to look out for?

Thanks for your help.

Are you after an inspired by the Novo or a more close representation? Cause what you have is a very petty ring although with a few big differences from the novo.

I also assume that the stone is not to sale in the CAD, as the stones looks oddly small for a 2ct. What finger size will the ring be?

My only major concern for the ring is the height of the stone, In the original Novo the centre diamond is sat at a medium high from the finger, in yours 9with the solid section under the basket) it will be set quite high and with a 2ct that would be uncomfortably high for me. If you want the look of the novo you should ask the jeweller to set the basket into the cathedral so the diamond sits lower. You should still be able to have a flush wedding band if your jeweller is careful.

Many thanks for your quick response!

Although the band was inspired by the Novo, I did want the microset diamonds to "pop" a little more. I believe the extra height comes from me telling the jeweler that I wanted the centre stone to look as large as possible (whilst still going hand in hand with the rest of the band and stones." What would be your reservations with having the stone higher - is it due to not fitting in with the rest of the band or not looking right from the side?

The stone is the one I mentioned in the below post in the below thread and comes up to 7.33mm by 7.17mm - would you say that was small for a 2 carater?:

Thanks again :)

Just a little shamless bump! Sorry, just need to return to the jeweler by today to stay within the timeline needed. Thanks!

What is the depth on your diamond? I agree that seems a little small for a 2 ct diamond; my 1.52ct is 7.19mm and it's an OEC.

Wait, if this is a cushion cut center, why is the cad showing a round?

I really don't like it nearly as well as a real Novo design. The head is not like the Novo, for one thing. If you make the shank wider, it is just going to make your diamond appear smaller. There are two great, high quality Novo-like settings already being made and I personally would not go custom on that particular ring. Too much risk unless you are working with a really outstanding ring maker and those CADs don't look all that impressive to me.

These would be made for your stone size and finger size:

BGD's Novela is delicious!!

It's a good question - does look quite round looking at it there! The diamond is a cushion cut, the depth of it is 68% from memory - I think from looking at a few, the dimensions weren't particularly large or small for the carat size?

Thanks for the feedback! I did actually send the manufacturer a copy of both the novo and the BGD novella for reference originally - he is supposed to be fairly reputed and does settings for some decent names over here.

It's great to get some detailed feedback on the actual design - have attached some images I have of the Novo direct from their website and forgive me being a novice on some of the terminology but do you think the body of the setting (shank?) is too wide - looking at it again I think there is a difference actually. Also what would you say are the key differences in the head?

Critical feedback is best here and I appreciate it as the maker is willing to take this on board and alter acoordingly.

Shank needs to be probably 2mm wide max. The head looks nothing like the Novo or Novella to me. On the side view, the height of the shank is too high near the top compared to the Novo.

Are you totally obligated? Because BG does the most beautiful version of this ring and you don't risk unpleasant surprises!
