I know this sounds crazy but I found a good diamond from a vendor here. Due to great pricing, there is no refund policy

However, I am planning to use Justin K - Manhattan Appraiser - to consult on my behalf PRIOR to purchase. I am in Chicago. Is this a stupid move? Should I pay more and have the money back guaranty? Is it abnormal to have the buying and appraisal done in another city without even seeing the rock???

Thanks in advance

I don't like the idea of no return policy

Why not have it appraised in your city so you can see it in person? That is what many of us around here do. Then the return policy is not really necessary if you can confirm what you are getting and love it before you buy it.

I agree with Jazmine. If the pricing is so great for the diamond, why would they be afraid of you returning it? I would walk - would not buy a diamond unseen with no return policy. No way, no how. If it really was the deal of the century, you''d be a fool to return it. The fact that they won''t let you spells trouble to me.

There are pricescope vendors that do not allow returns?

no refund?

that is crazy. insane. ridiculous.

who would buy a diamond that they have never seen without having the opportunity to return it?

did i mention that is crazy?

Gotta say, I share Kaleigh's surprise. Are you sure it's a PS vendor?

Regardless of who the vendor is.....I would unequivocally NEVER buy a stone without a refund/return window.

my rule of thumb: no refund, no buy.

This is why I prefer brick and mortar. Too much inconsistency out there. Scary. Not only would I want a return policy, I would want an upgrade in the future option.

Every reputable internet company does have a return policy. Most, including WF were I got my ring from, have amazing lifetime upgrade policies. Maybe you should do your research before you make statements like that

Thanks guys for the reply! yeah, I am not feeling all that great about it either. So, no go even if I have a reputable gem specialist look at the stone on my behalf? I would think he has better eyes for diamonds than I would. I need to pay additional $700 to make it refundable...

Indecisive,
I was only commenting on the original post, since she stated that she was working with a vendor from here. I''m glad you had a positive experience.

Curiosity kills the cat here...

Which Pricescope vendor won''t give you a return policy?!?!

Sorry guys but I like to keep the company annoymous for now. On a side note, it''s NOT the vendor but rather the supplier who is doing is...

Is that legal? In any case, I'm sure the people he supplies would be pissed if they found out.

Regardless of whether or not you can pay extra for the option to return, I would NOT do it. If a supplier is confident in his diamonds and trustworthy to work with, there should be a strong return policy. I may be able to understand an extra charge IF you decided to return the stone (b/c of re-stocking or whatever), but paying an extra $700 up front for the ablity to return - I DON"T LIKE IT.

just my .02

good luck

See what trouble you caused?? You said you found a good diamond from a vendor here, now it''s not a vendor here but a supplier. Should have said that from the get go. Anyway, I wouldn''t do it, not worth the risk, IMHO

Just to make my point clear....

If this was a knockout diamond, then why would the supplier sell it at a low price with no guarantee? Just doesn''t make sense. I''d say stay away from this deal.

Thank again for all the feedback. First off, I apology for the confusion but I am stating the facts. I found a diamond. I am getting $2k+ off their regular price after much price negotiation but with the caveat that it would not be returnable at that price. I am reporting what the company is telling ME - that it''s not him who is charging more but rather the supplier. I tend to believe him.

All great points and will certainly consider for piece of mind.

Hmm...almost sounds too good to be true.

To make sure you are truly getting a good deal, collect the cut quality, color, clarity, and compare the price for the diamond here. Is this diamond graded by GIA, AGS, or EGL?

Well, with the additional information given, I can think of one vendor that may fit this description.

If it''s the one I''m thinking of, his "supplier" is in the habit of not allowing the trade-up option either, unless you buy from him directly. This supplier I''m thinking of, by the way, is not a PS vendor.

SBKIM: If the $700 is that much of a deal-breaker to you, then I''d really strongly suggest you make sure that both your appraiser AND YOU look at it prior to agreeing to purchase. The appraiser''s job is to make sure you''re getting what you pay for. YOUR job is to make sure YOU LIKE what you''re paying for.

You can''t do his job, and he can''t do yours. So, if you absolutely insist on consummating this purchase with no return provisions, please make sure you see the stone prior to purchase as well.

Sorry, but something ''smell''s'' fishy to me. I would personally not consider such a purchase, but it''s your money.............

aljdewey - best advice yet. I am having Justin @ Manahattan Appraisers do the first leg work and verify the rock. I've decided to pay extra and get the exchange option - I have enough things to worry about than try to save $700...

Thanks again for everyone's input. In case you guys are curious, here is the rock in consideration:

GIA Cert:

Measurements: 8.70 - 8.73 x 5.31 mm

Carat Weight: 2.39

Color Grade: E

Clarity Grade: SI1

Proportions:

Depth: 60.9 %

Table: 53 %

Girdle: Thin to Medium, Faceted

Culet: None

Finish:

Polish: Very Good

Symmetry: Very Good

Fluorescence: None
