I have decided on this ring: James Allen Common Prong in a white gold palladium alloy. That will leave me with about $1150 after the setting for the diamond.

I am thinking round cut, H/I color, SI1/SI2 eyeclean, H&A. I just want at least .5 carat

Does that seem like good specifications to look for with the price range? Or should I sacrifice on color or something to get a little more size. It has to be eye-clean and I feel going below I color might be too much, because I could have G side-stones with J center stone and (correct me if I am wrong) the rule of thumb is stay within 2 grades of color.

I am not asking for suggestions as to which diamond to pick, I want to choose for my self and then post here and see if I picked a good one.

Wish me luck and any other advice you think I need, I'd appreciate it.

The color and clarity are fine, you may have to drop down the cut a little to get in the budget.

Actually, staying at JA, it looks like a dozen or more are waiting for you to choose between...on the higher side of the ranges you''ve described.

Best of wishes,

Sounds fine, post your contenders when you are ready.
