Hi Guys,

I am close to buying a diamond - i know what she likes - not too expensive and not too cheap either.

These were my specs:

14K White
Carat : 0.45
Color : E
Clarity : VVS2
Cut : Excellent

This is what they quoted:
blue sapphires and 0.18ctw of SI/H-I grade diamonds with
0.45ct round diamond for the center that is GIA certified,
VVS2/E, triple excellent, without fluorescence for $4,691 dollars.

My budget is about 4000, so i asked to reduce the clarity to VS1.

On what else can i possibly reduce?

Thank you

Reduce clarity to SI1 eyeclean and the color to G. And go up in size. I can't imagine someone spending 4000 on an engagement ring and not getting at least a full half carat.

Did your lady pick that setting? And what is the price for the setting alone?

I like that setting! You should be aware though that you won't be able to get a wedding ring to sit flush with it, which some women prefer. If you (and your gf) haven't already done so, you might want to ask to see the ring with a wedding ring so you can see what that looks like and make sure she likes it.

I agree with Gypsy - drop both color and clarity to increase the size of the center stone.
