I have found out if you want to get the *perfect* ring you won''t get it on an impulse buy!

So.....What is my buying process? What are my next steps.

* I''m 99% sure I have my vendor, Mark @ www.EngagementRingsDirect.com
* I have picked the setting & matching band.
* Mark is seaching for the diamond ( 1ct asscher) within my budget, he says he may have "the one" selected, I''ll be talking to him soon more about the center stone. I want to post the specs on here before anything else, But i''m guess I may have to increase my center stone budget
* I have the CASH!!!! My budget is $5,000 but it may have to go up a little.

So what do I do next, do I get the stone appraised? How where? Cost? Time frame?
Basically what are my next steps??

We are getting close people......

Oh yeah I forgot another one.....insurance! Where how????

I''d probably run the specs by people here who know asschers. Then I''d take a look at Gypsy''s thread with her new setting. A 1 ct. asscher is pretty small, and she reset her stone with a diamond halo and is much happier with it now. That is, unless your girlfriend has already picked out a setting she loves!

I didn''t get an extra appraisal on my certified stones. I was able to insure them with the sales receipts or vendor insurance appraisals.

Many, many threads here on insurance including one on Rocky Talky. You''ll probably want to go with Jeweler''s Mutual if the ring will be under $10,000 total. The only warning I have about that is that they require the ring to be inspected by a jeweler every so often.
