I want to get an idea how much it will cost if I buy a pair of loose diamond traps for sidestones vs. letting jeweler outsource. The only internet site I found is americanfancies.com- but their site has been "under construction" all week. Any other ideas?
Just call Whiteflash, ERD, or Good Old Gold. They probably would all sell them to you but it''s not something that they would have on their website.
BUT that being said, if you''re still talking about that Leon I would just let him source them for you. It''s easier and I don''t think his prices are bad at all for stones.
If I use Leon- I will have him do it. Just to add to my confusion- friend referred me to a local person who has beautiful work and prices similar to Leon. If I had to choose- thought it might be eaier for me to use person right down the street vs. mailing stone and only able to visit Leon once. BUT- local place charging ridiculous price for sides and they agreed better if I bring in my own side stones. I will call WF. Thanks.
I''d let the person making your setting get your sidestones. They will have a better selection to choose from and this will probably be cheaper. If you are picky about the appearance of them have them take pictures of the sidestones with the center stone for proportion ideas.
Well, this might be the deal breaker. The local guy who could make the ring wants to charge me an extra $3000 JUST for the side traps!!! The examples he showed me seemed in proportion to the stone and looked approx. to the pics of LM work with appro. same center stone ctw. I don't have the exact measurements, but I found a link of some price quotes from another PS'er who had Leon make a ring and her sides, if i read correctly- traps were another $600 extra in addition to metal, workmanship, and any melee. This is why I wanted to check prices online to see if $3000 was reasonable or riduculous. The guy did say I could get a better price if I find them myself so he must know his $3000 quote is high. The original quote for work if I bring in my own sides was about 3k and I spoke with leon and he said if I had my own sidestones, his price would be similar. I guess I should call lean and see if HE would charge me double to get stones!
For other who are curious about answer...well, Tim at GOG told me a nice set of traps are probably around 3k. Maybe get several hundred $ cheaper if I buy them myself- but is it worth the hassle- probably not.
What type of setting are you going for? If it''s pave, I would go with Leon, personally. His work is to die for! His non-pave settings are killer, too, but I can see the appeal in going local for a simpler setting.
I don''t see how someone can properly match trapezoid sidestones to any center stone that comes in various l/w ratios without having the center stone in front of them. whatever you choose to do i suggest the person picking out your trapezoid sidestones have the center stone in their hand as well so as to properly match the look.
keep in mind also that there are two types of trapezoid cuts -- Brilliant and Step cut
Yes, I agree I will have to have the stone in hand when pick out sides. OR I was told I can email Maria at WF if I have exact type and measurements of side stones I saw with my stone in person and maybe she can find. Once again- i guess it seems more hassle than it is worth to save a few bucks. I appreciate all who helped me figure it out!
