I''ve been searching all over for a place to buy from and after a lot of reading on this site, I decided to go with Excel Diamonds. I found what I thought was a great deal and so bought it, telling them to hold it till I decided on the setting. However, as I was looking at it, I started to get worried a little. I saw some little anomalies on the 10x picture that I didn''t see on slightly smaller diamonds of ideal or SuperCert spec. The comparison stone is much brighter in the pic (though maybe pics don''t always tell the whole picture...lighting can make a huge difference)

-Current Choice
SuperbCert H&A Cut Round
GIA Cert
0.85ct E SI1
6.07 - 6.09 x 3.76
D = 61.8
T = 56
G = medium to slightly thick
C = none
P/S = Ex/Ex
No fluoresence
Clarity - cloud
CA = 35
CH = 15.4
PA = 41.2
PD = 43.3

- comparison stone

I asked Barry about it and he said it is super eye clean face up and I would be immensely pleased with it. After reading some of the stories on here about dealings with them, I don''t know why I''m worried about it, but I''d just like to hear some thoughts if anyone has them.

Any help would be much appreciated:)

With those proportions I doubt that is the actual ideal-scope photo of this stone.

I try to avoid stones with apparently better than average clarity for a given grade when I see clouds mentioned. If the cloud is the main grade maker this stone could be a little sleepy. I much prefer to see inclusions that make sense than try to pick super clean misgraded stones because the lab people who do this stuff really know what they are doing most of the time (not always) and the so called bargains in your favour are usually not.

It looks like you made a mistake. That first stone is 34.5/41.

Hey Garry, is there really that big a difference between a VS2 cloud and an SI1 cloud? When I was searching through my VS2's and saw a cloud as the only inclusion listed everyone thought it was ridiculous to be worried about it, basically suggesting there was no way that a VS2 cloud is going to affect light performance, or at least that it would be highly unlikely. Yet here you are saying that a cloud in an SI1 may well cause the diamond to look sleepy? can you expand on that a little bit more?

Thanks for the info guys. However, there was a HUGE bit of confusion here that Barry has so kindly rectified. I''m more than a little embarrassed about it to be quite honest. This morning I have much more confidence in them than myself.

In short, I was an idiot.

Thanks for the fantastic resource in this website and I hope this post is burried quickly:)
