Hi everyone. I''m new to this forum and I hope I''m posting this in the right place. Before I started reading on PS I thought that Tiffany was the place to go to get an e-ring. To my surprise most everyone on here tries to steer people away from Tiffany. I also noticed that a lot of people on PS use ERD for their rings. I love the Tiffany ribbon ring and I know that ERD has a version of it. I was wondering if going through ERD takes a large chunk of $$$ off of the ring as compared to Tiffany. I''ve looked at Good Old Gold''s diamonds and love the Eighternity. Would it be possible to buy a stone from GOG and get the setting from ERD? Or would I be better off just biting the bullet and going straight to Tiffany?

Sorry for being so wordy. I''m such a newby and I just have a lot to ask. Haha

Thanks for any feed back or advice!

Tiffany''s has quite a mark-up so if you are looking for more bang for your buck then ERD/GOG would be the way
to go. Some people want the Tiffany''s name/blue box/service and thats ok too. Can you provide us a link to
the setting (ring). I wouldnt even know how to start to evaluate an Eighternity but post the numbers
(if you have picked out a specific stone) and see what the experts say. GOG also does videos if you find
a stone you like and need someone to talk you through it and show it off to you.

You might also ask GOG if they can get the setting that you are interested in or ask ERD if they can get
Eighternitys so you can keep it all in one house. Might make it a little easier but shouldnt be a big deal
if you have to use two vendors.

If you want more bang for the buck I would stay away from Tiffany''s. Other places carry excellent diamonds as well. Tiffany''s carries a greater price because of it''s name, etc...

If I were you I''d write to GOG and attach a picture of the setting and see what they come up with. If you do not like the setting then you can move on. If you do like the setting then search for the Eighternity stone you want and see what the price comes out to be. Price the same size stone with setting at Tiffany''s and then you can make a decision. Tiffany''s will have a premium but so will buying an Eighternity, you can decide based on the difference. I have an Eighternity stone and am very happy with it. You''ll also have to weigh in the fact that Tiffany''s won''t have the Eighternity so if you like the cut of the Eighternity more then your decision is half made already. Hope that helps.

There are things that I simply won''t go to Tiffany''s for, like maybe bead necklaces, but designs IMHO are a totally different matter. I find it''s hard to replicate a certain aura of a setting, that overall look a piece has.

From the way I see it, Tiffany''s isn''t just more expensive because of the name. Sure, you do pay a hefty price for the pretty box and the fancy lighting, but I also get peace of mind knowing that there are lots of stores all around where you can get your ring checked up on, and get your prongs tightened for free for life, etc. The service adds up, you know.

There are Tiffany stones that don''t perform as well as they ought to. (With a side by side comparison with other pieces in the store, anyone should be able to weed those out, if you''re worried. With all the well cut stones around, I do believe the lesser cut ones become rather easy to spot with a little training of the eye.) You certainly will be able to find diamonds that perform better than them at lower prices. But to be honest I''ve yet to see a replica setting that matches or outshines the original product, whether it is because of patent limitations or just plain craftsmanship.

I guess what I''m trying to say is:

1) It''s up to you to decide if that difference in $ is worth it to you (Have you found out how much the setting would cost from ERD?)
2) Just how much do you like the ribbon ring or the Eighternity?

Consider what are you willing to give up (or not) to get what you want, and the answer should become pretty clear. Hope that helps! :) Oh, and welcome to PS!!!

Go to tiffany''s. The design is unique. Go with the original, you won''t be disappointed :).
