Hello All,

I''m buying my first diamond for my gf''s e-ring, I just want to know what anyone thinks about it. Here are the only details i have right now but i''m going to see it again this morning and can get more. It''s a 1.19 ct round with an I color and a SI2. Do you think that will be a good looking diamond? Any suggestions would be apperciated. Thanks

Welcome to Pricescope!

Assuming it is eyeclean and has a reliable grading report, it could be an attractive diamond, but we can't tell as we don't know what the cut quality is, it is cut which makes a diamond beautiful!

When viewing this diamond, ask if you can examine the stone away from the jewellery store lights to see if you like the look of it in more ' real life' lighting conditions, or the everyday lighting in which the stone will be worn.

But we need more info to judge the cut, so if you could get the following information please, then we can go from there.

Type of lab report - GIA/ AGS/ IGI etc
diameter
measurement
depth %
table %
crown angle or percent
pavilion angle or percent
polish and symmetry grades
girdle thickness
fluorescence if any.

Thanks I will try and get that info when I go see it again.

Excellent! Good luck, and let us know when you have the info!

Chances are high that, if this is the only info, it is not a good looking diamond at all.

Anyone selling a good looking diamond would give you more information than this.

Ok I went back to the jewelry store and here is the info that I got from him. And the diamond is not rated, and he couldn''t measure the crown and pavillion angle, but here are the measurements that I got.

1.19 round cut with a I color and SI2

diameter measurements - 6.90-6.93 x 4.02
58.1% depth
53% table
medium thickness girdle
No fluorecence
Premium cut grade

Please let me know what you think of it.

Paul was right, patty this is a shallow diamond, and isn''t likely to be the best performer, I would pass.

Thanks for the advice, I''m trying to stay in my budget, and I would have paid $3950 for that diamond. What would you say would be a good depth %? And could I stay around that price if I wanted some deeper?
