I''m looking into palladium settings and I like some of the Danforth Diamond settings, but they don''t have the scope photos with their diamonds and also lack some other info on them that would be helpful. Is it possible to buy a diamond from elsewhere and have DD set it in one of their settings? Or would it be better to buy a diamond from them and have it appraised and then set?

I would suggest buying your diamond from a trusted vendor who provides you with all the info, then have the setting sent to them. Where you buy the stone is the one who will cover it in the unlikely event something happens. i.e. chip/crack.

ditto.

Ask ‘em. As Ellen points out above, one of the sticky parts is the risk of damage to the stone and/or the mounting that may happen during the setting process. Many stores will warranty things that they sell but will often put limits on things that you provide while others will offer full coverage but carefully limit what they will agree to work on. Usually the diamond is the more expensive part and it makes sense to have the diamond vendor be the one to take responsibility although the vendor of the mounting is a reasonably good choice as well (if they’ll do it). A distant third choice is to buy the diamond, mounting and labor from 3 separate sources.

An option worth considering is to get insurance before the stone is set into the mounting. This doesn’t reduce the risks, which are already rather small by the way, but it does make them someone else’s problem.
