I''m in Wellington, New Zealand, and my first question is to any of you who are in New Zealand, as I am wondering whether you have any recommendations for a good and honest jeweller in the area who would have access to good quality diamonds. I am looking to buy an engagement ring, but most jewellers seem to not offer diamonds with heart and arrows or ideal cut quality. The few who do seem to have their prices too high for me. Most don''t even know their cut quality because they are not graded, and just say that their suppliers are good and the diamonds range from very good to excellent, but they have no proof.
I have considered buying one from US, but the import duty of 18% seems prohibitive.
My second question is I probably can only afford a diamond of slightly less than half a carat because I want to get a platinum ring, so would it be worth getting such a high quality cut, or should I just take whatever the jewellers here are offering?
