Dear forum members,

I''m based in Singapore and I''m planning to buy a loose diamond from US online shop and shipped it here to Singapore, and then I''ll buy the settings in Singapore.

Could someone tell me what do I need to be aware of when buying loose diamond and finding settings for this diamond?

Regarding costings, I''m aware that there are some shipping cost involves, i am quoted US$75 + 1% of the total order. Has this normally already include insurance. And when it lands to Singapore, I will be slapped with 7% GST.

Is there any other cost that I missed out? I''m a bit strict on budget, but I want to give the best for her :)

Thanks for any hint and tips :)

You have to ask your vendor on the insurance part. Normally the insurance is included till it reaches you, if there is anything amiss such as broken box etc, you should open it in front of the postman and seek verification.

As after you received the package and sign for it, the insurance ends there.
Kindly sms 98578031 for more information as I may be able to help you.

I''m not sure exactly how it works in Singapore but you might want to contact customs (or maybe even the post office) and check to make sure there are no other charges like duty or processing fees.

Usually loose stones have no duty but there may be a fee that they charge you for having to charge you GST. At least Australia is nice like that

is the stone from USA one of the stones from the ps vendor? Alternatively, you can get one of the jewellary shops in Singapore to ship in the stone for you.. cheers

Yes, planning to get the stone from US.

The reason I want to get it from US not from the dealers in Singapore is due to price difference and more options.

So asking the Singapore vendors to get me the diamond might gonna cost me more.

Thanks for the help, i''ll try to ask the custom.

:)

Have you check vivodiamonds?

Hi there I had just check out vivodiamond pricing:) not as low as goldheart for GIA diamonds. But if there is a particular specs you wanted, its easier to find from vivo inventory than Goldheart. Anyway I have a $2518 two years full value for Goldheart jewellery, I am letting it out do give me a ring at 98750874 should you be keen!

Hey,
i am from singapore too and have not completed my journey in getting my diamond...

good luck to you...

hey ,
forgot to tell you....
yes, you got to pay 7% GST... in Singapore.
other than the shipping cost (some very few vendors ship for free) plus the GST plus the setting, there is nothing else to pay..

hey
Many of the jewellers in Singapore are hopeless la... not as knowledgable as those vendors in States. Also, they do not provide good analysis reports like sarin report, heart image, aset..etc.

Vivodiamonds do, at least for their in house stones.

Hi all,

thanks for the response.

Yes, I found that the information I could get from the shop here in Singapore is not as abundance as in US.
I went to one of the vendor in here, for a simple solitaire diamond ring of 0.7ct G VS1 they quote me for around S$4.5K. It was quite a nice one though, good fire and sparks.

Too bad i couldn''t get the ASET image or anything like that from them which if I wish I could post it here for opinion.

Anyway, good luck for all of us on hunting diamond :)

thanks for your information of Vivo diamond, I''ll surely check the vendor.

0.7 G VS1 for $4.5? Overpriced imo. Anyway, most S''pore jewelers only stock G VS and up, and it is frustrating that you can''t have a decent conversations about diamonds as many local SAs know nuts about them. I got my ring from US via online. 7% GST to be paid when clearing customs (Fedex can pay first and bill you later).
