Hello fellow pricescope users,

I stumbled upon this website as I'm looking to buy an engagement ring and this website is SO AWESOME. It provides people like me an un-biased resource on how to select the best diamonds.

So I'm looking to buy a diamond from Brian Gavin(BG's signature cut) but noticed that the AGS report is from 2010. Should I be concerned that the report is so old? I guess my concern is that since the diamond is from so long ago, there must be a reason that the diamond wasn't sold yet i.e.:
a) diamond was sold to a client but they then returned it as they weren't satisfied with it
b) better options out there
c) also wondering that from the buy back policy or upgrade policy, does it mean that when BGD buys back a diamond or someone upgrades their old diamond, can they resell this diamond again?
d) diamond simply hasn't been sold
e) other?

Sorry, I know I'm just being overly concerned but buying an engagement ring is a huge investment for me so I just want to be comfortable with it.

Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, this is probably a stone that has been upgraded. BGD will then relist the stone on their site for other potential customers to purchase. An upgrade policy is different than a buy back policy. Upgrading means that you return the stone and purchase a larger one. Buy back means that if you ever want to just sell your stone that BGD will purchase it back from you at a set percentage of the price you paid for it. Both are fantastic policies to have, and not all vendors offer the same policies so it's best to check first with each. Since this is a stone with BGD, I wouldn't be concerned with the age of the report. They are very reputable and I'm sure that the diamond as been thoroughly evaluated. If your concerned though, you should just send them an email and ask about it. They are a wonderful company, you will be in very good hands! =)

Thanks for your help Christina. I will give them a call about the diamond if I will for sure purchase it.

I wouldn't hesitate, either. People upgrade diamonds all the time at these vendors who have great upgrade policies. Of course, there are also stones that may not sell for two years, for example, very high clarity drives up price and many people buy lower clarity to save money or to get a larger size.
