Buying a stone on-line (in this case, a pear)

HI all again -

I''ve gotten great advice from all who''ve replied re: my pear "cut" dilemma. It seems that apart from seeing it in person, or having some good clear pics and an ASET, it is hard to tell what it''ll look like. The on-line stores I''ve contacted (just a few) have not been very forthcoming re: the stone''s details; in fact, more interested in having me pic a stone of a different clarity, etc.

So, if I do want to but a stone on-line, but need to see the actual stone or else deal wirth someone who can truly help me and advise me ... how can I do this? Are there people such as diamond "brokers" - who''ll act as the buyer''s agent...all this for a not super expensive diamond?

What I suggest you do is contact one of the vendors rather than a diamond broker, these sellers below have in house diamonds or can source you a great looking pear through their contacts. I would contact Jon at

All of the above vendors have an excellent rep for fancy shapes. These vendors can supply photos of diamonds which with pears are an essential in my opinion and sometimes ASET or Idealscope images, ( ASET are preferred for fancy shapes). Pears can vary tremendously in shape as I explained earlier, some more rounded and fat, others long and thin, others in between and some have shoulders which are shaped like shields which I don't particularly like, so you can see why images are so important.

Without question buying a diamond with no visual info seems ill advised to me- especially a pear shape diamond.

But there are dealers that actually have the diamonds in hand and can give you a personal evaluation.
Combine that will good digital photos and video and you should be able to get a very good idea what the stone will look like when you get it.
