Hey guys, first off just want to say this board has a ton of great info. I've been looking for the perfect ring for my GF for a while now but finally think I found a setting she would love.

It seems that most jewelers who sell this setting are either overcharging for diamonds or not in my area so I may have to purchase it online. I was thinking of getting the diamond online as well (Blue Nile, whiteflash, etc). Now I have never done this before and don't know anyone who has so I have a couple questions.

If I buy the setting online, as long as my diamond falls within the range it can accommodate there should be no issues setting the diamond right? Is the halo premade to fit certain sizes or will I have to specify the size of the diamond so the halo can be adjusted? Will I have to find a jeweler in my area who is willing to set the diamond for me? This seems a little tricky. I feel like a jeweler will be reluctant to set a diamond that he did not sell for liability issues. Is there any risk to this as well?

Any help will be appreciated! Thank you!

Guess what? You are in luck! Whiteflash sells Simon G settings! It by FAR is easier to buy stone and setting from the same place! They probably send your stone to Simon G to set. That is how most designers do it, although certainly WF carries a larger range of settings that they set themselves.

So what is your budget for the stone?

(And yes, ordering a setting and a diamond and then going to find a jeweler who will set your stone is never a good idea because often they will not be liable if there is damage during the setting process to stone or setting since they sold neither one to you.)
